"The Johto Elite Four"
Let's get one thing straight cause I'm sick of having to fix it. THERE IS NO ELITE FOUR IN JOHTO. There never was and there never will be. Will, Koga, and Karen all work in the Indigo Plateau. The Indigo Plateau is in KANTO. Not Johto. They are all part of the Kanto Elite Four. Their even listed in the article. Got it? - Sorry about that, I was trying to make Koga and Karen's entries consistent with Will's. I'm also not entirely sure there is a consensus here, as the pages on Will, Koga, Karen and Bruno all refer to them being in the "Johto Elite Four", and the page on Elite Four uses only the neutral term "Kanto/Johto Elite Four". Personally, I prefer the latter term, as they are the Elite Four of the Indigo League, which spans both Kanto and Johto, despite the location of the Indigo Plateau. Trivia:
- Emerald was the only game where an Elite Four member used the same Type as a Gym Leader, other than the Johto-based games which had 21 Gym Leaders and Elite Four combined.
- Only in Generations II and III does the Champion have a specialist Type.
- Not counting remakes, Poison has not appeared for the longest time; it has not appeared since the Generation II introduced Johto, whereas all other Types have appeared at least twice since.

- Well, yes, it is interesting... but it's also huge! I don't know where we could work a template of this size into. Besides, it's also not the most attractive—not to disparage your work, but lots of white space does not an attractive template make. Move

Who qualifies?
First, I feel the definition of a "Type Specialist" should be better defined. Who should we consider a type specialist? For instance, Aqua Admin Shelly is considered a Water-type specialist, but in the games, she only has two Pokémon, with only one being a Water-type. In fact, she has more Dark-types in her party than Water types. Shouldn't she be considered a Dark-type trainer instead?
Second, should a game character be listed if their type preference only appears in anime canon? (i.e. Greta and Anabel) - Chosen of Mana 16:10, 12 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I was wondering, can we make a redirect to this page using the word "monotype"? I think a sizeable amount of the fandom refers to a "type specialist" as a "monotype specialist". Malenfant (talk) 22:33, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

Suggestion
Could I add Team Flare Grunts to the list of Dark-type experts, because in the anime, good Arceus, almost every Pokemon of there's has at least part Dark-type. Team Plasma Grunts are also listed, but they don't really use that many Dark-types compared to Team Flare Grunts. Playerking95 (talk) 06:20, 6 November 2016 (UTC)
Defining a Type Expert
I think it might be best to change "specializes in just one type" to "tends to use Pokémon of just one type". It's kind of a small difference, but a number of specialists stray from their typing-Lorlei uses a Slowbro, all three Striaton leaders use a Lillipup, Aaron uses a Drapion, Karen uses a number of Pokémon that aren't Dark-type, Lance uses a Gyarados and an Aerodactyl, Clair uses both of those and a Charizard, Volkner uses an Octillery, Bruno uses an Onix, Flint only uses two Fire-types in his Diamond and Pearl battle-the list goes on.
For trainer classes, are they listed as type experts if one of them uses Pokémon of one type, or if all of them use Pokémon of one type? If it's the latter, I think the Furisode Girls should be removed from the Fairy-type specialists list. Though five of them exclusively use Fairy-types, four of them don't use any Fairy-types at all.

Dexio and Sina
Should Dexio and Sina be listed as Psychic and Ice type-experts, respectively? In Sun and Moon they both use exclusively one type, they're just as notable as Ryuki, and Dexio's page links to this one. AmoongussForLife (talk) 00:02, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
- Dexio should be listed here, yes. As for Sina, as you can see from looking at the hidden note on her page and the associated history and talk pages, the staff have repeatedly and emphatically deemed her not an Ice-type expert, as she only uses two Pokémon outside battle facilities, which is not enough to judge by (not to mention that she uses more non-Ice-types than Ice-types in those facilities). Specialists?
I don't know if it's me, or it feels like it's rather unfair to have minor, one-time appearance characters as "specialists" but the more advanced trainers like the Champion not included. Not to say that they're not type experts, but could there be like an "other" category for prominent characters like that that don't necessarily stick to one type?
