This Tretta was awarded as a prize at the Ultimate Z Challenge ~Battle with Ash~ event held at the 43rd Next Generation World Hobby Fair during winter 2016. The World Hobby Fair took place at Makuhari Messe, Chiba on January 23 and 24, 2016; at the Nagoya Dome, Nagoya on January 31, 2016; at the Kyocera Dome Osaka, Osaka on February 7, 2016; and at the Fukuoka Yahuoku! Japan Dome, Fukuoka on February 14, 2016. It was awarded again in the same manner at several later events. Details of these events are as follows:
- At VIVACE Amusement Space, Ōbu, Aichi on February 28, 2016.
- At the Hokkaido My Home Center, Sapporo on March 5, 2016.
- At the Kakita River Sun to Moon shopping center, Shizuoka on March 20, 2016.
- At participating Pokémon Centers and Pokémon Stores on March 26 and 27, and on April 2 and 3, 2016. Another event was held at Pokémon Center Kyoto on April 9, 2016.
- At Shopping Plaza Kamagaya, Chiba on April 9, 2016. Participants with the top 10 highest scores at this event were also awarded a certificate.
- At Seven Town Azusawa, Itabashi, Tokyo on April 10, 2016. Participants with the top 10 highest scores at this event were also awarded a certificate.
- At participating stores with Pokémon Tretta arcade units on April 29, 2016. Each store had a limit of 20 people per event; with people selected by lottery if more than 20 were present. Participants with the top 3 highest scores at this event were also awarded a certificate. A lottery was then held for participants to become eligible for the Golden Ultimate Z Challenge ~Battle with Ash~ event in June 2016.
- As part of the Golden Ultimate Z Challenge ~Battle with Ash~ event, held at the 2016 Tokyo Toy Show on June 11 and 12, 2016. Participants in each of the 2 age divisions at this event achieving the top 3 highest scores were awarded a set of 8 golden Ultimate-class Tretta in a presentation case. The top 10 highest scores were also awarded a certificate.
The Ultimate Z Challenge ~Battle with Ash~ featured one opposing team of Pokémon comprising Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde. Players who managed to fill the Catch Gauge of any one Pokémon were awarded either this Tretta, a Yveltal Tretta, or a Zygarde Tretta at random. Players who did not manage to defeat any Pokémon at these events were instead awarded a Ash-Greninja Tretta. Unlike most events, only two Tretta were required to participate, with the third taken up by a special Greninja Tretta belonging to Ash Ketchum. This Tretta was capable of transforming into Ash's Greninja and could use the move Water Shuriken. The team present at each Ultimate Z Challenge ~Battle with Ash~ is detailed below.
