I was playing LeafGreen, got the strenght move and gave it to Snorlax. I went over to the boulder to the right in the house where you obtained the HM, tried to use it, and it told me that I need to have a special badge to do this. Could any one help me out here? --Bentendo 02:18, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

See Badges to see which are needed for which HM moves. In this case, it's the Rainbowbadge. --Zeta 02:30, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Oh, thanks! I can't believe that I forgot to fight that gym leader! --Bentendo 02:34, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Outside of battle

"The Pokémon using it will grow and you will have the ability to push a boulder(only in HeartGold and SoulSilver versions)."

This phrasing is somewhat misleading - it seems to suggest that the ability to push boulders with Strength is exclusive to HG and SS, while it probably means to say that the visual growth effect is only in those games. Can it be reworded a bit? --Tayrtahn 16:25, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

They never grew when using it outside of battle for me unless they were on steroids or something I don't know about. Frozen Fennec 16:42, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Gen V?

should it be put somewhere that prior to gen v, when one left the area the Boulder will respawn at the same place, but in gen v, once its pushed into a hole it stays there? <Plokool 18:21, 6 November 2011 (UTC)>

Probably in the same area where it notes the size difference in boulders. Toon Ganondorf (t c) 22:00, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

Match

Is it noteworthy that this move and Machamp have the same Japanese name?--Benayla (talk) 06:07, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

It is now! Satosuke (talk) 12:47, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
@Pumpkinking - Don't you think it's notable that they're that similar? At the very least, Machamp's name is a pun on "Super Strength." Adding an extension kana doesn't always change the meaning, and in this case, it doesn't at all. It's just used to align Machamp's name with the formatting of Wanriky (Machop) and Goriky (Machoke). I think it was a pretty harsh reversion, honestly. Satosuke (talk) 01:34, 15 December 2016 (UTC)
It's not just adding an extension kana; they're written in completely different syllabaries (Strength in hiragana, Machamp in katakana). That's a conscious choice by the game designers that sets them totally apart. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 01:42, 15 December 2016 (UTC)
That's a relatively arbitrary distinction. All Pokémon names are written in Katakana for emphasis – the same way Pokémon without nicknames in the English versions used to be written in all-caps. The meaning is the same. Yes, some moves are written in katakana, but mostly just those that are drawing on foreign language words, such as in the case of Aqua Jet. This is a case where kairiki is a proper Japanese term for "Super Strength," is the pun behind Machamp, is Machamp's signature technique, and is also the reason that Machamp is used as the Ride Pokémon to replace Strength in Alola. It's definitely notable trivia. Perhaps you'd like to rewrite the trivia in a fashion that you deem most proper, but otherwise I plan to rewrite this myself, taking into account these grammatical caveats you've pointed out. Satosuke (talk) 01:51, 15 December 2016 (UTC)
I agree that it is very likely intended at least as a pun, and that the different syllabaries and extra chōonpu do not tell them apart too much; even when ignoring trademarks, however, we would transliterate Machamp as Kairikī and Strength as Kairiki, so they're not the same in any way, so I also agree that we shouldn't state that. (And we also shouldn't speculate, as in "that's the reason that Machamp is used as the Ride Pokémon to replace Strength in Alola".) If you do find a good way to formulate it, I'm all for the addition. Nescientist (talk) 13:46, 15 December 2016 (UTC)
