In [[HZ066]], Roy, Liko, and Dot returned to the Naranja Academy, where Nemona informed them of the upcoming [[Course Students Battle Tournament]] to celebrate the end of the Terastal Training course. Roy was then informed by Dot that the Explorers were trying to hack into the academy's systems to steal information on Terapagos. After splitting up, Roy found Coral and challenged her, Roy soon took the fight outside the classroom to prevent the destruction of student artworks, in which Coral followed in pursuit: after a clash of power between Fuecoco's Flamethrower and Glalie's {{m|Blizzard}}, the boy encouraged his Partner Pokémon, who ultimately outclassed his opponent and defeated Glalie, forcing Coral to retreat in anger. Later, after reuniting with Liko and Dot, the three were informed by [[Dendra]] that both Roy and Liko would face each other in the next round of the tournament.

In [[HZ067]], their fight begun, with their selected Pokémon being their first partners. After his Pokémon got into trouble due to Floragato's vine, Roy switched him for Kilowattrel, who took the lead thanks to its flight and speed and paralyzed Floragato, forcing Liko to recall it for {{TP|Liko|Hattrem}}. The latter tried to immobilize Kilowattrel with her psychic powers, but was still defeated, although she managed to cure the paralysis of her teammate thanks to her {{a|Healer}} [[Ability]]. Liko then ordered Floragato to trick the opponent with the vine before defeating him with {{m|Scratch}}. Roy sent Fuecoco back to the field, who after being encouraged by his Trainer, Ryme, and the crowd, evolved into {{p|Crocalor}}. Both Trainers Terastallized their Pokémon, but Crocalor prevailed and defeated Floragato, making Roy the winner of the battle.
