A '''counterfeit card''', sometimes referred to as a '''fake card''', is a custom, fictional, or duplicate card based on cards from any particular trading card game, but created by some person, group, or company other than the original creators of the game in order to sell to unsuspecting consumers. They are distinct from [[fan-made card]]s, which are custom or fictional cards that are created by fans of the game without the intent to sell them as if they were made by the original creators.

Since the release of the [[Pokémon Trading Card Game]], people and companies have made and illegally sold counterfeit cards in places like farmers' markets, dollar stores, and on the internet for low prices.

 

In particular, counterfeit cards are cards created by companies other than [[Nintendo]], [[The Pokémon Company]], [[The Pokémon Company International]], [[Media Factory]], [[Creatures, Inc.]], or [[Wizards of the Coast]], mostly by taking existing cards and making cheaper duplicates of them.
