Physiology
Heracross are large beetle-like Pokémon covered in a blue exoskeleton. The most notable feature is the large, pronged horn protruding out of its forehead. Heracross has two antennae with spherical tips to the sides of the horn, and elliptical eyes with yellow scleras. Heracross has small spiky extensions on the forearm segments of its exoskeleton, and two claws on its hands. Heracross has a single spiky extension on each thigh, and one pointed toe on its feet. The lines on its exoskeleton make it look like it is smiling.
Heracross is a bipedal, Coleoptera insect Pokémon covered in a blue exoskeleton. There is a long, pronged horn on its forehead. The horn ends in a cross on males and a heart-shape on females. On either side of the horn is a short antenna with a spherical tip. Heracross has oval, yellow eyes. Its forearms have a pair of spikes near the wrists, while its thighs have a single spike each. It has two claws on its hands, and a single long claw on each foot. There is a single pair of wings covered by elytron, which can be seen during its release from a Poké Ball in the 3D games. Heracross's claws allow it to dig into the ground for sturdy footing and also allow it to climb trees. Using its horn, it throws opponents or competitors for food. It can lift and throw objects 100 times its own weight. It uses its two antennae to search for food by scent. As mentioned in Sleep, Heracross is known occasionaly sleep while licking the sap it finds. The reason is due to Heracross becoming exhausted from a potentinally hard search for sweet sap. It lives in List of Pokémon by habitat, where it feeds on tree sap. In Generation II, Megahorn was its signature move.

Gender differences
As seen in the anime, Heracross has been known to compete with Pokémon such as Pinsir for food. The same episode also shows Heracross allowing Butterfree to feed on tree sap after Heracross has finished its meal. In addition, it is shown to suck sap from Grass Pokémon such as Bulbasaur. In Alola, Heracross get along better with Pinsir, as they both have rivalries with Vikavolt.
A female Heracross's horn has a heart-like shape at the end, whereas the male's end in an 'X' shape.

Forms
Heracross can Mega Evolve into Mega Heracross.

Special abilities
Mega Heracross is bulkier than its previous form. Thin orange markings now rim its head, hands, and shoulders. Additionally, there is a half-circle, orange marking over its eyes. It now has a long, pointed nose that curves slightly upward. Its back now lacks wings and is completely yellow. The horn on its head has grown into a large, simple spike with two smaller spikes on the front. The antennae have lengthened as well and now have ovoid tips. Mega Heracross's forearms have thickened and lost their spines. Sometimes, when attacking, particularly with a multi-strike move, its exoskeletal shell on the upper side of its arms opens up, revealing a segmented yellow skin layer filled with holes, which let air enter and exit from its forearms. During these attacks, its claws simultaneously retract, allowing Mega Heracross to fire various types of ammunition at a rapid pace.
Heracross is surprisingly strong for its size, and is able to knock down massive trees with its mighty horn. Heracross can use said horn to lift other Pokémon, and its shell is said to be as tough as steel. Heracross is also able to fly, and is even depicted in the anime to be strong enough in its flying to transport its Trainer over limited distances.

Behavior
This Pokémon has a high body temperature, so it opens the shells of its arms and torso to allow heat to escape. Mega Heracross boasts such incredible strength that it can lift objects up to 500 times its own weight between its horns. However, it is left with muscular soreness after reverting to its original form.
Heracross live in groups in deep forests. They bite through the bark of trees with their strong jaws to get to the sweet sap inside. This suggests a relation to fellow Bug Pinsir, who share many of the same habits. Heracross's eating habits unwittingly enter them into a symbiotic relationship with Butterfree, who also love tree sap, but lack the strength to get to it. Despite their size, great strength, and powerful horns, Heracross are really docile creatures who prefer peace over resorting to violence.

Heracross prefer to live in deep forests, such as those in Johto, Sinnoh & the Sevii Islands, where there are many trees for them to suck sap from.

Heracross's preferred diet is mainly made up of sap and other plant juices. This makes them unpopular among Grass Pokémon like Bulbasaur, as Heracross often try to suck nourishment from them. This also makes them easy to attract with Honey.

Trivia
Trivia
* No other Pokémon has the same type combination as Heracross.
* Heracross can be seen as a counterpart to Pinsir, replacing Scyther in that role, which gained an evolution in Generation II. Both are Bug Pokémon based on beetles and lack an evolutionary family. Pinsir is not part Fighting like Heracross, but it learns several Fighting-type moves by leveling up. Both Pokémon and their Mega Stones are versions exclusives in X and Y: Heracross and Heracronite are exclusive to Y while Pinsir and Pinsirite are exclusive to X. Each Mega Stone can be found in Santalune Forest in their respective versions. The heights of both Pokémon are the same, even when Mega Evolved. The Pokémon are also version exclusives in the Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass. Heracross can be found on the Isle of Armor if playing Shield, whereas Pinsir can be found in its place when playing Sword.
* Heracross is one of fourteen Pokémon that one could collect foreign Pokédex entries for in Diamond and Pearl.
* Mega Heracross has the highest base Attack stat of all Bug Pokémon.
* Heracross is the only non-Flying type that learns Aerial Ace by leveling up.
* Mega Heracross is tied with Mega Pinsir, Mega Scizor, and Genesect for the highest base stat total of all Bug-type Pokémon.
* Heracross is able to learn Bulk Up via TM08 in every generations since its debut, except only in Black and White.
* Heracross is one of fourteen Pokémon that one could collect foreign Pokédex entries for in Diamond and Pearl.
* Despite being depicted as capable of flight, Heracross is not part Flying, nor can it have the Ability Levitate. It shares this trait with Beedrill, Venomoth, Dustox, Volbeat, Illumise and Volcarona. Unlike the others, however, Heracross' sprites are not in flight.
* Heracross is the only Fighting Pokémon in the Bug.
** It is also incapable of learning Fly, despite being seen possessing the ability to easily carry a human being in flight, in the anime.
* Heracross can be seen as a counterpart to Pinsir. Both are Bug Pokémon based on beetles who lack an evolutionary family. Unlike Pinsir, Heracross is part Fighting, however, Pinsir does learn several Fighting-type moves by leveling up.
* Heracross's FireRed and LeafGreen Sugimori artwork has the exact same pose as its original Generation II artwork. It shares this trait with Nidorina and Furret, whose artwork was in the same pose in both their original Generation I and II and FireRed and LeafGreen and HeartGold and SoulSilver art respectively.

Origin
Origin
Heracross is most likely based on the Japanese rhinoceros beetle, a very popular species of rhinoceros beetle found in Japan and other parts of Asia.
