I think I figured out the vanishing act. It's due to the filename. Many operating systems don't allow question marks in filenames, and it's probably due to those that caused the image to vanish. I went and uploaded an image to [[:a:Image:Spr 4d 493-Unknown.png|Image:Spr 4d 493-Unknown.png]] on the archives, and that image works as it should!
