In Japan, this card was reprinted with different artwork by [[Ken Sugimori]]. At the 1999 Tropical Mega Battle tournament, those who were not in the main event could still battle each other, earning stamps for every battle they participated in. Those who completed their stamp booklet were awarded either a Moltres, {{TCG ID|Fossil|Articuno|2}} or {{TCG ID|Fossil|Zapdos|15}} phone card at random in a sealed envelope. The non-holographic version of this card was reprinted in the {{TCG|Legendary Collection}} reprint set, which was only released outside of Japan.

The Phone card promo is slightly longer than a normal trading card, as the print had to adopt the same dimensions as a regular Japanese phone card. That print utilizes the same stock Sugimori artwork of Moltres that was later used on {{TCG ID|Gym Heroes|Rocket's Moltres|12}} from {{TCG|Gym Heroes}} and on {{TCG ID|GB|Moltres|1}} from {{Card GB}}.

Wildfire's Japanese name, Yamayaki, refers to a Japanese festival in which withered grass on a mountain is burned. This card's English [[Pokédex]] entry comes from {{game|Red and Blue|s}}, though it is slightly reworded. The Japanese entry comes from {{game|Red and Green|s}}.
