In Japan, this card was reprinted with different artwork by Ken Sugimori. At the 1999 Tropical Mega Battle tournament, those who were not in the main event could still battle each other, earning stamps for every battle they participated in. Those who completed their stamp booklet were awarded either a Moltres, Fossil or Fossil phone card at random in a sealed envelope. The non-holographic version of this card was reprinted in the Legendary Collection reprint set, which was only released outside of Japan.
This card was included in the Fossil expansion as both a Holofoil and Non Holofoil card, first released in the Japanese Mystery of the Fossils expansion as a Holofoil card. The Phone card promo is slightly longer than a normal trading card, as the print had to adopt the same dimensions as a regular Japanese phone card. That print utilizes the same stock Sugimori artwork of Moltres that was later used on Gym Heroes from Gym Heroes and on GB from Card GB.

Wildfire's Japanese name, Yamayaki, refers to a Japanese festival in which withered grass on a mountain is burned. This card's English Pokédex entry comes from Red and Blue, though it is slightly reworded. The Japanese entry comes from Red and Green.

Dive Bomb's Japanese name is a spelling error of the Japanese name of Sky Attack, a move in the Pokémon games that Moltres can learn.
