From there Lyra begins on a Pokémon journey in the [[Johto]] [[region]], facing off against its eight [[Gym Leader]]s, defeating and disbanding the revived [[Team Rocket]], and becoming [[Pokémon Champion|Pokémon League Champion]] by defeating the [[Elite Four]] and its previous Champion, [[Lance]] at [[Indigo Plateau]]. Along the way she also teaches Silver to respect Pokémon as living creatures and not just as tools for battle.

After being declared the Pokémon League Champion, Lyra then takes a short trip on a ship, the [[S.S. Aqua]], from [[Olivine City]] to [[Vermilion City]] in [[Kanto]]. Journeying across that region, she battles against its own set of eight Gym Leaders. Upon getting permission from [[Professor Oak]] in [[Pallet Town]], Lyra heads for [[Mt. Silver]] via {{rt|28|Kanto}}. Her journey comes to a close when she faces the Champion from Pallet Town Pokémon Trainer {{ga|Red}} at the summit of Mt. Silver, who had been training there since shortly after he became Pokémon League Champion [[Generation III|three years prior]].

===When not selected as the player character===

If {{ga|Ethan}} is selected to be the player character, Lyra meets him in [[New Bark Town]] at the start of the game. In this particular scene, she is seen with a {{TP|Lyra|Marill}}. Her role in the storyline of HeartGold and SoulSilver is similar to that of {{ga|Lucas}}/{{ga|Dawn}} in {{game2|Diamond|Pearl|Platinum}} if they are not chosen as the player character, while Ethan takes this place if she is selected as the player. She teaches the player how to catch Pokémon on {{rt|29|Johto}} (replacing the [[Dude]] from {{3v2|Gold|Silver|Crystal}}).

While playing as Ethan, her grandparents run the [[Pokémon Day Care]] on {{rt|34|Johto}}. She also gives the player the [[Fashion Case]] in [[Goldenrod Tunnel]] and the [[Vs. Recorder]] on {{rt|31|Johto}}.

Shortly after the release of {{game|HeartGold and SoulSilver|s}}, an {{an|Lyra|anime counterpart}} of Lyra appeared in the episodes from ''[[DP143|An Egg Scramble!]]'' to ''[[DP147|Bagged Then Tagged!]]''. Much as with {{an|May}} and {{an|Dawn}}, she shares both her English and Japanese names with the player character she is based on.

====In the Pokémon Adventures manga====

Although Lyra doesn't appear separately in the [[Pokémon Adventures]] manga, {{adv|Crystal}} essentially serves as her counterpart by wearing her {{game|HeartGold and SoulSilver|s}} outfit in the arc thanks to her mom forcing her to wear it against her will.

====In the Pocket Monsters HeartGold & SoulSilver Go! Go! Pokéathlon manga====

Lyra appeared in [[Pocket Monsters HeartGold & SoulSilver Go! Go! Pokéathlon]]. None of her Pokémon are known.

* Lyra is 4'11" (1.52 m) tall and weighs 90.4 lbs (41 kg).

* While some fans assume that {{ga|Kris}} and Lyra are one and the same, [[Takao Unno]] revealed in an interview that he designed Lyra from scratch.{{fact}}

* Occasionally, Lyra will call and claim that her {{p|Marill}} evolved into {{p|Azumarill}}. Upon meeting her again, however, she will still have a Marill. This mix-up is due to a translation error: In the Japanese version, she talks of how she would be surprised ''if'' she were to turn around on a whim while walking about and find her Marill in the process of evolving, or having evolved, into an Azumarill. She follows that thought up with: "But that would never happen!"
