Release information
Release information
In Japan, this card was released as an insert with Easily Understand How to Play Pokémon Card (Asobikata Volume 1), released in October 1996. The early print termed Asobikata Jigglypuff was printed on regular card stock. It was later included with the November 1996 issue of CoroCoro Comic printed this time on glossy card stock. The English version of the card was released with a promotion in the Pokémon the First Movie soundtrack. A proof of purchase from the soundtrack had to be mailed in to receive the card.

In North America, early copies of the soundtrack on compact disc and compact cassette contained details of a mail-in campaign that required people to send a proof of purchase in exchange for the card. In the United Kingdom, the card itself was included in early copies of the soundtrack. In Japan, it was first available as an Unnumbered Promotional cards on a two-card insert alongside CoroCoro in the November 1996 issue of CoroCoro Comic, released on October 15, 1996. Another version was from Japan but the card itself was in English. This card was printed on Japanese card stock. This card has the same black star promo symbol except for a few changes. The black star itself was instead grey and the word "Promo" was in gold lettering. Only the Jigglypuff and Pikachu shared these distinctions. It is still not known very well at this time how it was distributed and where it could have been obtained.
A mail-in prize draw offering another glossy copy of the original Japanese print was published in the October 1998 issue of CoroCoro Comic, released on September 15, 1998. People wishing to enter the prize draw were required to affix the application ticket on the bottom left of the article page to a postcard and send it to Shogakukan. Two thousand winners were sent a set of four cards mounted on two plain sheets: Pikachu and Jigglypuff on one; CoroCoro and CoroCoro on the other. An English version on glossy Japanese card stock was also available on a two-card insert alongside Pikachu in the Spring 1999 issue of Hyper CoroCoro, released on March 1, 1999. This print features a gray star symbol with a yellow "PROMO" superimposed on it, similar to the Black Star promotional cards released outside Japan.
