Beginning Set for Girls
Released simultaneously with the regular Beginning Set, the Beginning Set for Girls (Japanese: はじめてセット forガール) marks the first TCG product explicitly marketed at a specific gender, with differences in presentation and illustration style on the cards exclusive to the set. Aside from a number of these exclusive cards, the contents remain largely similar to those in the regular Beginning Set: three starter-oriented half decks, damage counters, one coin, one play mat, three quick guides, one how-to-play booklet, and one how-to-play DVD.

Battle Carnival 2011 merchandise
The Battle Carnival was introduced as another large-scale TCG event that catered for both new and experienced players. Its first incarnation was held at two locations in Japan: at the Mydome Osaka, Osaka on November 5 and 6, 2011 and at Sunshine City, Tokyo on November 19 and 20, 2011. Like the preceding Summer Carnival in Tokyo Tower, it offered many different activities in which participants could earn commemorative items not available elsewhere.

All visitors at each venue were given a silver version of the coin available in the Pokémon Card Game 15th Anniversary Premium Set. Visitors presenting a copy of the Beginning Set + to attendants were given a mini clear file featuring the Battle Carnival 2011 key visual illustrated by Hitoshi Ariga. Visitors who also showed attendants the menu screen of Pokémon Card Game: How to Play DS after clearing the game were given a copy of White Collection from the White Collection expansion. Packs of 32 Official Carnival Sleeves (Japanese: オフィシャルデッキシールド carnival Official Deck Shield: Carnival), which were exclusive to the event, could be purchased from vendors for ¥350 plus tax.

Participants of the Beginner's Classroom and Experience Battle side events were given an original sticker featuring the key visual. Participants of the How to Build a Deck Classroom were given a Deck Advance Sheet. A Jumbo card BW-P promotional card was also given to participants of Experience Battle who completed at least 1 match. Other side events included the Reshiram VS Zekrom One Day Battle and Special Guest battles. Participants of the One Day Battle were given 1 September 2011 Gym Challenge promotional pack. The top 5 competitors from each were given an Official Enjoy Deck Case, previously available to purchase at the Summer Carnival in Tokyo Tower, and 2 Official Carnival Sleeves. Those who won a match against a Special Guest were given 3 September 2011 Gym Challenge promotional packs.

Promotional Mirror Holofoil BW-P Promo and BW-P Promo cards were given to participants of the main Victory Cup tournament, which had 3 leagues: the A League, open to elementary school students and below; the B League, open to junior high school students and above; and the O League, open to all ages. The A and B Leagues played using a BW-on format while the O League played using a DP-on format. Mirror Holofoil versions of BW-P and BW-P were given to players who progressed to the 'Premier Stage', which required 3 consecutive wins in the initial 'Challenge Stage'. The top 3 players in each league at each venue were given copies of new BW-P cards presented in acrylic trophy stands, which feature different illustrations and colored stamps depending on the position. Overall winners were also given 1 booster box each of Psycho Drive and Hail Blizzard, 1 copy of both the Reshiram-EX Battle Strength Deck and Zekrom-EX Battle Strength Decks, and a copy of the Pokémon Card Game 15th Anniversary Premium Set. Those placing second were given 10 Psycho Drive and Hail Blizzard booster packs and a copy of both Battle Strength Decks, while those placing third were given 5 packs each from Psycho Drive and Hail Blizzard plus both Battle Strength Decks.

Official Coin Dice
Stores began to sell Official Coin Dice (Japanese: オフィシャルコインサイコロ) from December 16, 2011 as an official option for players preferring to use dice instead of coins when playing matches. Even numbers equate to heads and odd numbers equate to tails. This is further accentuated by the designs on each die: the Poké Ball die has colored designs for even values and a grey outline for odd values. Pikachu's head is featured on even values while its tail is on odd values.

Spring Tournament merchandise
Pokémon Centers and participating Gym Challenge venues held official Spring Tournaments between April 7 and 30, 2012. These events offered two match types in which people could participate: the Hydreigon & Garchomp Cup and the Gym Challenge Cup. People participating in the Hydreigon & Garchomp Cup could enter one of two divisions: the Elementary School and Below League, tournaments consisting of 3-Prize card matches played with 30-card decks, or the Open League, tournaments with no age limit consisting of full 6-Prize card matches played with 60-card decks. Those placing first following the conclusion of each tournament were given 5 series 2 promotional Gym Challenge packs; those placing second were given 3 packs; and those placing third were given 1 pack. The Gym Challenge Cup consisted of three age divisions: the Elementary School and Below League, the Junior High School and Above League, and the Open League. All divisions used full 60-card decks but used different formats: the two age-limited divisions used an equivalent of the Standard format (BW-on) while the Open League used an equivalent of the Expanded format called Hall of Fame regulation (DP-on). Those placing first were given 5 promotional Gym Challenge packs from a range of series 1 to 3 in addition to a bye in the main World Challenge Tournament in their local Battle Carnival 2012 Spring venue. Those placing second were given 3 packs and those placing third were given 1 pack.

Participants in either event were given an exclusive teal-colored Rayquaza coin. A set of Mirror Holofoil BW-P Promo and BW-P Promo promotional cards were also given away with the purchase of a Garchomp Half Deck or Hydreigon Half Deck at stores while Spring Tournaments were in progress.

Battle Carnival 2012 Spring merchandise
Another item released on April 20, 2012 was the National Beginning Set (Japanese: はじめてセット 全国図鑑版セット). It is similar in many respects to the original Beginning Set, but features pre-Generation V Pokémon in the packaged half decks. The set also comes with damage counters, a coin, a play mat, plus a how-to-play booklet and DVD.
The first Battle Carnival event of 2012, and the second of its kind, was held at four different locations across Japan: at the Sendai Sun Plaza, Sendai on May 3, 2012; at Pacifico Yokohama, Yokohama on May 12 and 13, 2012; at Port Messe Nagoya, Nagoya on May 20, 2012; and at Intex Osaka, Osaka on June 3, 2012. Like the first Battle Carnival, each venue held numerous events for people to participate in, from introductory demonstrations to competitive battling. Each venue offered prizes that could not be obtained elsewhere as well as exclusive merchandise.

All people visiting a Battle Carnival venue were given a Tinsel Holofoil coin featuring Rayquaza upon entry. Stores present at these venues sold event-exclusive Official Carnival 2012 Spring Deck Cases (Japanese: オフィシャルデッキケース carnival2012sp) and packs of 32 Official Carnival 2012 Spring Sleeves (Japanese: オフィシャルデッキシールド carnival2012sp Official Deck Shield: Carnival 2012 sp), each of which feature the key visual created for the event by Hitoshi Ariga. The illustration prominently features Rayquaza and Hydreigon in an amphitheatre watched by a Pikachu riding an Altaria. A Giratina looms on the upper steps, while a Haxorus and Garchomp battle below. Latias and Latios soar in the sky overhead. A set of Mirror Holofoil BW-P Promo and BW-P Promo promotional cards were also given away with the purchase of a Garchomp Half Deck or Hydreigon Half Deck at these stores.

People new to the TCG could take part in the Beginner's Classroom and were given a sticker featuring the Battle Carnival key visual for doing so. Those more familiar with the game could participate in the Experience Battle, earning a Jumbo BW-P promotional card in the process. This event comprised two leagues: the Elementary School League, limited to children of elementary school age and below, and the Parent-Child League, where children of at least elementary school age could team up with a parent or guardian in 2-on-2 matches. Winners in each of these leagues were given a set of 4 random basic Energy cards. Other smaller events consisted of the How to Make a Deck Classroom, in which participants earned a Deck Advance Sheet, as well as the Victory Battle and Gym Leader Challenge, each of which awarded promotional Gym Challenge packs to those who won a match. A Commemorative Photo Service Corner was also present at each venue, where a group or person could have their photograph taken in front of a board with the Battle Carnival logo and then have the image printed on an exclusive Jumbo BW-P promotional card.

The main competitive event was the World Challenge Tournament, which offered a place at the 2012 World Championships for those who won in each age division at each venue. These age divisions comprised an A League, open to those born after 2001, and a B League, open to those born before 2000. The Yokohama venue also held an O League, which was open to competitors of all ages. All participants of the World Challenge Tournament were given a set of BW-P Promo and BW-P Promo promotional cards and could earn another set of promotional BW-P and BW-P cards by reaching the Premier Stage, which required three consecutive wins at the initial Challenge Stage. The top 16 players following the culmination of the Premier Stage would progress to the knockout Climax Stage to determine an overall champion. The top three players in each age division were given gold, silver, or bronze BW-P promotional cards depending on their position.

Autumn Tournament merchandise
Official Autumn Tournaments were held at Pokémon Centers and participating Gym Challenge venues between October 7 and 28, 2012. These small-scale events offered two match types in which people could participate: the Half Deck Pokémon Card Player Certified Battle, a 1-on-1 game played using a deck of 30 cards, and the Standard Deck Team Battle, a 2-on-2 team battle using a deck of 60 cards. Participants in either event were given a set of exclusive stickers; winning battles would earn players promotional Gym Challenge packs. Winners in the Half Deck Pokémon Card Player Certified Battle also earned a certificate that could be redeemed at upcoming Battle Carnival Autumn 2012 venues for a special prize.

Additional prizes were given away while meeting certain criteria at venues. People using 1 or more Team Plasma card in their deck while playing a match were given a Plasma Gale Clear File. People showing the long card box from Master Deck Build Box EX to attendants while participating in a match were given a pack of 62 Skyla Metallic Version Sleeves (Japanese: デッキシールド フウロ メタリックver. Deck Shield: Huuro Metallic Ver.). Multiple boxes could be shown in exchange for multiple packs of sleeves. These are the same as the original Skyla sleeves with the exception that they have a metallic blue border instead of the previous white.

Battle Carnival 2012 Autumn merchandise
The second Battle Carnival of 2012 was held in three locations in Japan: at AXES Sapporo, Sapporo on November 4, 2012; at Intex Osaka, Osaka on November 17, 2012; and at the Tokyo International Exhibition Center, Tokyo on November 23 and 24, 2012. All visitors at each venue were given an event-exclusive Team Plasma coin. Exclusive merchandise could also be purchased at stores present at each venue, including packs of 32 Official Carnival 2012 Autumn Sleeves (Japanese: オフィシャルデッキシールド carnival2012at Official Deck Shield: Carnival 2012 at) that feature a split front view of Kyurem. Two new products, the Official Black Deck Case Holder (Japanese: オフィシャルデッキケースホルダー ブラック) and the Official White Deck Case Holder (Japanese: オフィシャルデッキケースホルダー ホワイト), could be purchased from stores present at each venue as well as Pokémon Centers starting November 4, 2012. Packs of 62 Skyla Metallic Version Sleeves, first available at Autumn Tournaments in October, were also given to people that presented the long card box from Master Deck Build Box EX to attendants.

The main event held at each venue was the 2012 Victory Cup, which had two age divisions: the Junior League, open to elementary school students and below, and the Open League, open to players of any age. Competitors began at the Challenge Stage and could progress to the Premier Stage by recording 3 consecutive match wins. Players would then face each other in a number of matches to determine the top 8, who would then progress to the single-elimination Climax Stage. All participants of the 2012 Victory Cup received promotional BW-P Promo and BW-P Promo cards, while those reaching the Premier Stage earned a promotional BW-P card. The top 3 players at the end of the Climax Stage were each given a BW-P promotional card mounted in an acrylic trophy stand, with varying designs based on their overall position. The overall winner from each venue would earn the right to play in the 2012 Victory Cup Best in Japan Battle in their age division, held on the second day of the Tokyo event. The Tokyo event also held the 2012 Victory Cup Last Challenge Qualifier on the second day as a final opportunity for players to enter the Best in Japan Battle. All participants of this event were also given Tympole and Landorus promotional cards.

Other events available to challenge at these venues comprised the Hall of Fame Battle, which used an equivalent of the Expanded format (DP-on) and offered BW-P Promo promotional cards to those who won 3 consecutive matches; the Join Team Plasma Battle, which offered regular copies of Plasma Gale from Plasma Gale to those who won a match; and the Open Gym, which allowed players to host their own tournament with bespoke rules that other players could participate in. Promotional Gym Challenge packs were given to hosts and the top 3 players of each tournament. Several events that catered for beginners were also held at each venue and offered prizes to participants: those who took part in the Beginner's Classroom were given a Battle Record Book; those taking part in the How to Make a Deck Classroom were given a Deck Advance Sheet; and those taking part in the WAKUWAKU Team Battle were each given a promotional Gym Challenge pack. Sheets given to those taking part in matches had a box that opponents could tick if they felt a player had good manners during play. Attendants would regularly check these and give out stickers featuring Black Kyurem and White Kyurem to players deemed to have had good manners by their opponents.

Battle Carnival 2013 Spring merchandise
The fourth and final Battle Carnival was the last major domestic event to be held during the BW Era, and was held in four locations across Japan: at the Fukuoka International Congress Center, Fukuoka on May 4, 2013; at the Nagoya Trade & Industry Center, Nagoya on May 12, 2013; at Makuhari Messe, Chiba on May 18 and 19, 2013; and at Intex Osaka, Osaka on May 26, 2013. Each venue held one main competitive tournament plus a number of smaller side events, ranging from beginner classrooms through to mini tournaments.
The main event at each venue was the World Challenge Tournament, in which players vied for a place to represent their country in the upcoming 2013 World Championships held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. There were two divisions for people to enter at all venues: the A League, open to those born after 2002, and the B League, open to those born before 2001. The Chiba event had two more divisions: the U League, open to those under 19 years of age (born on or after May 19, 1993), and the O League, open to all ages. The A, B, and U Leagues all used an equivalent of the Standard format (BW-on), whereas the O League used an equivalent of the Expanded format (DP-on). All participants were awarded a promotional BW-P Promo card regardless of their progress in the tournament. All players began at the 'Challenge Stage' and could advance to the 'Premier Stage' by achieving 4 consecutive match wins. Players reaching the 'Premier Stage' were also awarded a promotional print of BW-P. The 'Premier Stage' consisted of multiple 4-player mini knockout tournaments and the winners of each would go onto the knockout 'Climax Stage' to determine the World Challenge Tournament champion in each division, who would earn a place at the 2013 World Championships. The top three players in each division were also awarded BW-P and BW-P promotional cards.
This Battle Carnival introduced the PokéCard Point system, an added incentive to get people involved in some of the side events. By participating and performing well in these events, people could earn PokéCard Points that could be exchanged for exclusive items. This would continue as the Play Point system in future events and has since become a long-standing method of promotional card redemption. Eligible side events included the 3 on 3 Battle, the Limited Battle, the One Day Battle, and the Gym Leader & Team Plasma Challenge. 1 PokéCard Point could be exchanged for a promotional print of 1 of the 8 basic Energy cards or 10 PokéCard Points could be exchanged for a BW-P promotional card. Those accumulating 20 PokéCard Points could redeem them for a full-color illustration made by one of the guest TCG artists present at each of the venues. These items were extremely limited and were available on a first come, first served basis. While not included as eligible PokéCard Point events, participants of the Beginner's Classroom and How to Make a Deck Classroom were respectively given Battle Record Books and Deck Advance Sheets.
Each venue also offered exclusive items in addition to the promotional cards on hand. All visitors were given a Blastoise coin upon entry, as well as a sticker featuring Genesect, Mewtwo, and Darkrai, and a Toyopet road safety sticker featuring Pikachu and Oshawott themed cars. Toyopet also sponsored the good manner award, in which opponents determined whether or not they conducted a match in an appropriate manner. Players deemed to have played in such a way were also given a mini clear file featuring Genesect, Mewtwo, and Darkrai. An Original Deck Case featuring Blastoise and Kyurem, first available at Spring Battle events in April, was given to people that presented the Strongest Expert Guide from Blastoise + Kyurem-EX Combo Decks to attendants.
