By creating your account you are now able to edit pages, join discussions, and expand the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia. Before you jump in, here are some ground rules:

  • Be nice to everyone. It's in the code of conduct.
  • Make good edits. Preview them before you save to make sure they're perfect the first time around.
  • Use wikicode and link templates when adding content to a page.
  • Use proper grammar and spelling, and read the manual of style.
  • You can't create a userpage until you've added to the encyclopedia. It's a privilege. See the userspace policy.
  • Use talk pages to resolve editing disputes. Don't "edit war," or constantly re-edit/undo the same thing on a page.
  • If you have a question about something, be proactive. Take a look at our FAQ. If you're still stuck, ask for help. The staff won't bite.
  • Sign all talk page posts with four tildes (~~~~). This will turn into your name and the time you wrote the comment.
  • For more handy links, see the welcome portal.
Thank you, and have a good time editing here!

Welcoming users

Hey there! It's nice of you to welcome new users to this site, but we don't do it unless there is at least one contribution from each new user. It saves space on the servers. Thanks for your understanding. --リックEO (My message board) 07:10, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

Alright and thanks for the information. --SirFinkleBottom 14:58, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

The Preview Button

Instead of editing a page several times in a row, try using the preview button to make sure your edit looks the way you want it to. It's right next to the Save Page button. Please try it out, so as not to clog up the Recent Changes. Also, if you want to edit multiple sections of the page, make sure that you click "edit this page" at the top of the page rather than editing it by section. Thanks! --Tiddlywinks (talk) 17:42, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

I ask that you leave the edits for Generations until we are closer to the release date. Additionally, reprints of cards always redirect to their older prints. MaverickNate 02:15, 13 February 2016 (UTC)

1)We typically do not link to images before they are created. It causes issues with them appearing later when they actually exist.
2)I have no idea what cards you are looking at, but release information has always been a section below card text. MaverickNate 20:46, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
Sorry overlooked the "Card Text" in the example you gave me. Have you uploaded the images I sent you? SirFinkleBottom 20:48, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
I'm working on downloading them now. I'll take care of the improvements from here, since there are a number of things I'd like to add myself with the Generations cards. MaverickNate 20:51, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
Is there anything else I can do then? It's really fun to contribute to something new. SirFinkleBottom 20:53, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
I could use your help on the archives. Each image for BREAKpoint needs to have its category added to the image page. That's done by adding "[[Category:BREAKpoint|###]]" (where ### is the three digits of the card number. i.e., Chikorita would need [[Category:BREAKpoint|001]]. This category belongs on a separate line in between the Pokémon name and right about the Japanese expansion category. would you be able to take care of that for the 123 images of the expansion? MaverickNate 21:07, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
Yep, can do that. Takes a burden off of you and I'll be having fun. Thanks, SirFinkleBottom 21:14, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
Completed.SirFinkleBottom 22:12, 15 February 2016 (UTC)

Copying from other websites.

It is against the rules here to copy translations from other websites, including PokéBeach (especially since PokéBeach isn't particularly good or consistent with translations). That sort of thing is called plagiarism, and is strictly forbidden. Since you've been doing to your best to be helpful, it'll get a slide this time, but please remember that pages created for Japanese cards must be made using your own translations. If you aren't able to read Japanese, it is best to leave the Japanese card pages for someone else. MaverickNate 14:52, 15 February 2016 (UTC)

Very, very sorry. I didn't know guess I can't make these pages then :( SirFinkleBottom 14:57, 15 February 2016 (UTC)

Pokémon-EX page.

Listen, how about you leave the Pokémon-EX page (and similar ones) alone until all the EXs from the set are revealed? I'm the one who usually updates those pages and I would appreciate if you keep it that way. Metalizard (talk) 22:29, 15 February 2016 (UTC)

Please go back through your edits and fix your errors before continuing. Footers don't have type parameters, expansion categories all go before illustrator categories, Non Holofoil doesn't have a hyphen, empty parameters should stay, and you messed up Moltres's ndex. glikglak 03:55, 20 February 2016 (UTC)

Attacks should still have damage and effect parameters if they don't use them. And categories shouldn't have blank lines between them. Why you're changing that when we have thousands of examples of how to do it correctly is very confusing. glikglak 04:39, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
Because that's how Maverick Nate wants it now.SirFinkleBottom 05:38, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
Err, it seems a made an erroneous conclusion when looking at 2 of his contributions. He didn't add a space into the categories. He merely moved the Illus and then forgot to close the gap. Sorry about all of the confusion. I haven't been to big a nuisance. Thanks, SirFinkleBottom 05:48, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
I didn't have that error on any page that I've done. MaverickNate 14:26, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
I would prefer if you weren't going through the oldest cards to update their templates. I need someone more experienced to be working on those ones. MaverickNate 20:47, 20 February 2016 (UTC)
As far as I know, it doesn't seem like many users actually want to go through each page the way I do. I have a macro keyboard and can easily blaze through template revamping. The only thing I would need from you is when to use "included", "first released", and other terms with slight meanings. Also it doesn't seem like you nor Glik have as much time at the moment (because I assume that you have a life and such). What I am accidentally doing wrong is the real question and what I would like to have feedback about. I have followed all of your advice about checking card text, updating words and phrases, and making sure I don't do silly things like spacing out categories. Am I being a nuisance because that what it's starting to seem like. I get it. I'm new. Yes, but how can I get better when I am being held back? I'm sure you didn't start off as the TCG god editor (or maybe you did who knows :P ). We all have to start somewhere. But anyway, I'm simply confused as to why I can't keep updating and contributing to this epic wiki. Thanks, SirFinkleBottom 03:13, 21 February 2016 (UTC)
Please check your work by pressing the "Preview" button after you are done editing. Or at least after you press Save. I spot a few mistakes here and there, such as not adding the Cardtext/Footer or not putting in the type for Poké-Power/Body and/or moves. Yes, you do do things quickly but you're prone to mistakes. — Ruixiang95 13:06, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
I do check my work thank you. One mistake (the one where you are referring to) in about 50 edits is pretty good to me. I stopped making those other mistakes I was making in the past. I will continue doing what I have been doing as I am following procedures correctly and efficiently. Thanks, SirFinkleBottom 14:14, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
You haven't been doing them all correctly, as evidenced by me checking those edits to fix the mistakes. Had you waited for us to respond to your previous message, most of those would've been avoided, part of which would be because we'd have told you not to use macros, as it leads to mistakes like this. Even then, given how you'd misunderstood the release information and category spacing, I would still go through your edits to check for mistakes instead of working on other things. In short, I'm not comfortable leaving you to your own devices on this, so I'm asking you to leave the update to others. There are other things that need to be done in TCG; tomorrow all the BREAKpoint cards need marked as legal in Standard format on the cards by Pokémon pages, for instance. glikglak 22:41, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
The point of updating the whole page to TCG standard is to update the whole page to TCG standard. It is incredibly frustrating to have to go through things again and again to fix up what other people decided to leave behind. No more of this "Updating only TCG template" nonsense. My philosophy is always: if you aren't going to do it all, don't do any of it. It makes it harder for the next person to find what you decided to not do. MaverickNate 00:23, 1 March 2016 (UTC)
It's incredibly frustrating when one of the admins here do not reply to a message that was left on there talk page and I'm sure you can figure out who it is. I asked for information about how to properly update the release information which is the sole reason I stopped editing everything else (because I was getting yelled at for making the mistakes of a new user/inexperienced user). If you look at my contributions you can easily see when I stopped doing entire page updates and switched to the only updating template "nonsense" you speak of. From my perspective, the note of Updating TCG Template only serves the purpose of marking whether or not the page was fully updated and the editing of the template is the most time-consuming part of the editing process which would allow somebody to focus on what really needs to be updated which is the card info itself.. Also, on my user page, one could see that I have a list displaying which sets I have updated the template (note the non-usage of anything suggesting fully updated TCG card info). I'm sorry for any inconvenience that I have caused as it was unintentional and I am only trying to help. Thanks, SirFinkleBottom 00:52, 1 March 2016 (UTC)
As a follow-up as to why I am so upset, and why this is very important and significant, I will explain some more. I have only one list of what cards need to be completely checked and updated. One. That list is located here and only here. That page is the list of every single article that uses the old template that we are removing: Template:TCGAttack. When someone removes that template, it no longer appears on that list. So, when you decide that you are "Updating only TCG template", you might as well not be doing anything; you're being a hindrance. The only thing that you are doing is taking away that page from my only guide that exists. Now, in order to actually check those pages, I have to sift through all of your list of contributions and double check every single card you've edited regardless of whether or not you checked everything you were supposed to. You've doubled my workload. You've made the effort to double my workload. When I have to go through two expansions worth of contributions, that means that I can't get to the more significant things happening right now: I can't write articles for new cards in Awakening Psychic King; I can't take the time to add the 31 missing products to the English XY BREAK TCG Series merchandise page. This is really disappointing for me, because as those are the current things happening in the TCG right now, I'm losing readers and viewership because that content isn't available right now, and readers aren't even given the option to find that news here and must go somewhere else. Updating the card pages is simply an aesthetic, and relatively unimportant to new content. We had to make the changes because what we had couldn't add the new Ancient Trait features that came with Primal Clash. It does nothing to actually add new content to 8000+ old card pages. I just need you to understand where I'm coming from here. I also see that you've responded to my message while I was writing this one, so I'm going to post it, read your new message, and then respond again. MaverickNate 01:00, 1 March 2016 (UTC)
Okay, I understand why you are upset. However, I would like to point out that I am simply one volunteer leader in charge of the largest quantity of content that makes up easily 40% of the entire encyclopedia. Pair that with the fact that for the 20th anniversary, we have the equivalent of 6 upcoming expansions of content to worry about this month, doubled over the normal 3. Additionally, at right about the same time, after averaging about 2-3 talk page messages per month last semester, for the past two weeks, I have been averaging five per day, not including other people's talk pages, and also the messages on facebook and twitter, chats, and forums that some users have decided to contact me there to ask BP questions instead of here, while also trying to check everyone's contributions in order to give immediate feedback before they spread a mistake across dozens of pages (Which is also a concern, because the TCG received about 7 new, inexperienced users within the past two weeks all trying to contribute in different ways, and it has been incredibly impossible to keep track of everything). I'm sorry if I missed one of your messages: I'm getting overwhelmed. So overwhelmed that I frequently have to leave the wiki in order to assess what's going on and come back with actual responses to everyone's concerns. I apologize for ignoring you, and I apologize for being short and blunt. As you want more feedback about how to improve, please just post a new message on my talk page (new so that It's more obvious to me that I haven't responded to a new section yet) with specific concerns, and I will do my best to respond to them when I get back from work in ten hours. MaverickNate 01:22, 1 March 2016 (UTC)
Maverick Nate, it was not you I was speaking of. You have been the only thing here that kept me from leaving when this admin, User:Glik decided to start being rude. Here is the message I left him User talk:Glik#In Response to Spite. You Maverick Nate are the reason I am contributing because you are an amazing role model and I have been trying to model the way that you do your edits and try to learn from the things that you are doing. Glik on the other hand i do not feel so strongly towards. Also him being your second-hand man in the TCG department and not helping you out during this very important time in the TCG is saddening. I don't have much time but I try to find time to edit those "templates" (such a disgusting word to say now haha :) ) and I am always checking pokemon-card twitter for new cards and information. I've been trying to get you all caught up with what I thought was a relatively important matter but now I see why you are so upset, and I deeply apologize. Thank you for being patient with me and making your notions/goals clear to me. I will now focus my attention on what needs to be done right now in the TCG. (Btw, If you want me to undo those edits I can do that for you. Don't wanna give you anything else to worry about.) Sincerely, SirFinkleBottom 01:48, 1 March 2016 (UTC)

Funny fact about your edit history

I was browsing your edit history to see what kind of things you did, then I saw this:

18:29, 14 February 2016 (diff | hist) . . (+371)‎ . . Caterpie (Flashfire 1)

17:39, 26 September 2014 (diff | hist) . . (+805)‎ . . Days of the week ‎ (→‎Platinum: (I have to go soon so I only finished Sunday))

I found it funny that you said you would be finishing something on "sunday" and then you came back 2 years later.

But what made me laugh out loud, was that the day you really came back, (14 feb 2016), really is, a Sunday.

I thought it was funny. XP Hope you're having fun here! :) MannedTooth (Talk) 23:46, 29 February 2016 (UTC)

Shh....I can't let them know I'm part of the Illimunati XD SirFinkleBottom 00:07, 1 March 2016 (UTC)

Listen, next time, instead of going into an edit war, talk to me (oh, and read the Pokébeach article more carefully). I knew what I was talking about when I said those cards were not from the set. I guarantee you I have much more knowledge about the TCG than you, and this case was just an example. So be sure of what you're doing when you start adding cards to a set and reverse edits. And btw, that Zygarde entry on the list with no type assigned is for the Zygarde 10% forme card confirmed through the booster box image. Don't remove it again. Since only the artwork is shown on that image, it cannot be 100% confirmed that it is a Fighting-type card even though it probably is. This is how Bulbapedia works and I'm sure Maverick Nate will tell you the same. Metalizard (talk) 19:53, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the cocky reply. I too read the article but doing a simple search in google and doing research into past decks shows that the cards that are in the decks come the current expansion. However, I should have entered hidden comments instead of straight up entering the cards for everyone to see just in case they change up how they do things. Also I mistakenly erased that Zygarde 10% as I forgot about it (it happens). Maybe you have better knowledge than me, maybe you don't but appears your only knowledge about those cards came from the same article that I read thus you only knew as much as I did making your first point irrelevant. SirFinkleBottom 20:02, 6 March 2016 (UTC)
And this is why I wrote a cocky reply. When I said I had more knowledge about the TCG, I wasn't talking about news. Of course, I also read the PokéBeach article. But I didn't came here right away to add cards to the wrong set because I know how things work in the TCG. No, the cards do not come from the current expansion. That Perfect Zygarde-EX will not appear in the Japanese XY10. I don't know what type of research you did but in English, yes, the cards included in the theme decks come from from the main expansion (or previous ones when it comes to trainer cards). In Japan, that's not the case. The cards from decks like the Zygarde-EX deck, Palkia-EX & Golduck BREAK deck, Mega Charizard Y deck and others before, are exclusive to them. They do not appear in the main expansion released alongside them. Again, only some Trainer cards that are included in these kind of decks also appear in the expansion, usually staple Trainers. What then happens is, when planning the International sets, TPCi merges those decks with the main japanese expansion. Hope you're more informed now. Metalizard (talk) 22:57, 6 March 2016 (UTC)
We shall see what the future holds. For now you have won. SirFinkleBottom 02:07, 7 March 2016 (UTC)
After taking a step back, cooling off from stress of work, and can see how I was wrong in adding the cards. I was groggy this morning and added them before doing complete and thorough research. Sorry for the attitude. Thanks, SirFinkleBottom 04:03, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

The set had to leak right when I was sleeping lol... Metalizard (talk) 16:10, 16 March 2016 (UTC)

Yeah. You good though. Wouldn't have been so bad if that newbie user hadn't come in and had an edit party lol. AND he didn't even check the numbers and names. Straight from Pokébeach with the old CTRL Z. From now I'll only add cards if you haven't added them within a day or two and I'll focus on keeping other sections up-to-date and keep fixing up old card pages. Thanks, SirFinkleBottom 18:12, 16 March 2016 (UTC)
It's okay if you want to add the cards yourself. I like to do it myself because I like to help here and I'm used to the way the TCG sets work, the way it has to be edited and all that stuff. But I noticed your editing has improved and what you did with the page was good. Metalizard (talk) 01:24, 17 March 2016 (UTC
Alright thanks. I will keep that in mind but I notice that you seem to enjoy adding in new card info when they are released and that you have a passion for keeping up-to-date. You can handle card updating and I'll add, as I said earlier, if you haven't gotten around to it. Don't want to take something away from you that you enjoy contributing the most with. :) SirFinkleBottom 01:34, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
