In {{3v2|Diamond|Pearl|Platinum}}, they can be found by mining in [[the Underground]]. Skull Fossils are [[Version-exclusive Pokémon|exclusive]] to Diamond while Armor Fossils are exclusive to Pearl. In Platinum, only one or the other will be found based on the last digit of the player's [[Trainer ID number]]; an odd number (1, 3, 5, 7 and 9) will only generate Skull Fossils, while an even number (0, 2, 4, 6 and 8) will only generate Armor Fossils. If brought to the [[Oreburgh Mining Museum]], the Skull and Armor Fossils can be regenerated into {{p|Cranidos}} and {{p|Shieldon}}, respectively.


Unlike the other Fossils, the Skull and Armor Fossils cannot be found by {{m|Rock Smash|smashing rocks}} in {{game|HeartGold and SoulSilver|s}}. The '''Armor Fossil''' was introduced as a {{TCG|Trainer card}} in the [[Pokémon Trading Card Game]] in the {{TCG|Mysterious Treasures}} expansion, first released in the Japanese {{TCG|Secret of the Lakes}} expansion. Although it is a Trainer card, it is played as if it were a {{ct|Colorless}} [[Basic Pokémon]], meaning the player's opponent takes a Prize card when it is Knocked Out. However, Skull Fossil can't be affected by any {{TCG|Special Conditions}}, can't retreat, and the player may choose to discard it at any time during their turn. Additionally, if it is damaged by an opponent's Pokémon's attack, it allows the player to flip coins until they get tails and, for each heads, reduce the damage done by the Attacking Pokémon by ten. It can evolve into {{TCG|Shieldon}} that evolve from an Armor Fossil.
