Alomomola is a pink fish Pokémon with darker pink markings on its body and fins. Its main body is heart-shaped. It has large, hand-like dorsal and ventral fins, each divided into four sections and tipped with a paler pink. It seems to lack a proper tail fin. Its eyes are round with a mark that appears to be an eyelash extending up and back toward the rest of the body. Below the eyes are small dark pink marks.

Alomomola is capable of healing Pokémon using their special membrane enveloping its entire body.

In addition, the name may also come from the {{wp|Hawaiian language|Hawaiian}} ''aloha'', meaning "love" or "affection"; this is evidenced with Alomomola's heart-like shape and the ocean sunfish's preference to tropical areas, such as {{wp|Hawaii}}. The name ''Alomomola'' is also a {{wp|palindrome}}. Mamanbou could be derived from 翻車魚 ''manbō'', the Japanese word for the ocean sunfish, and "Mama".
