Bulbapedia talk:Talk page

Addition

I think the paragraph discussing blanking pages should also mention the whole "don't delete talk page comments" thing. That way, when a user asks "where is that written?!" I'll have an answer for him. --Martonimos((Argh|Blargh)) 05:51, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

Why...

must we leave vandalistic messages like these on talk pages? What's wrong with deleting them? And furthermore why do we let the mysterious and anonymous and clearly not human operator of BulbaBot do stuff like that? — THE TROM — 23:57, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Hey!

Admin! I know your on! Include a related articles; Bulbapedia Talk page abuse on there!DCM((曲奇饼妖怪Spy on My Edits)) 01:27, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
Why say such a thing? Why do we need an article about rule breakers and since it's already in the article, the article isn't needed. Should we make a page about edit wars? --- Aura-Knight 01:37, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
That can be included. Just for people reading it to be able to find that policy if they have no knowledge of itDCM((曲奇饼妖怪Spy on My Edits)) 01:38, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

I hope it's obvious from the title. - espeonA 01:37, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Why?

"When archiving, the entire page much be archived by moving the page as to keep the edit history in tact. By simply copying and pasting the text, or by moving small sections at a time, it breaks the time line of the edit history." Why do we have this rule? It's so stupid. 0° 21:14, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Welcome Message

Why do I have to keep my welcome message if I don't want or need it? Sounds pretty stupid if you ask me. I mean if there's some really good reason to keep it, can that at least get added to this page? --Crystal Shards 18:38, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

It's a very useful source of information for how this wiki works. It links to some major policy pages which everyone needs to be aware of, and in addition helps you get started editing Bulbapedia. Hence, everyone gets the welcome when they first arrive. —darklordtrom 22:19, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
My question isn't why we get it in the first place, it's why we get in trouble for removing it. That, to me, is a little over the top. --Crystal Shards 00:08, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
Everything stays. That helps to keep a history of what's been said. You weren't in trouble, you were just told not to do it again. —darklordtrom 01:21, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
I'm not saying I got in trouble, but apparently others have. I can understand deleting comments, but this is a welcome message I'm talking about. - unsigned comment from Crystal Shards (talkcontribs)
I'm well aware that this is a welcome message. Maybe it's done differently on different wikis, but this is how it's done here. Everything stays. Does it really bother you that much? —darklordtrom 01:49, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
Here's what you do: When your talk page gets too big for you, archive it. It gets removed from your current talk page but it isn't deleted at the same time. tc²₆tc26 01:50, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
It's not really that big of a deal, I just think it's dumb to dock people for just wanting it gone. I will end up archiving it but it just really shouldn't even be an issue if people want to delete it. --Crystal Shards 02:18, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
You weren't docked anything. You weren't penalised in any way. There isn't a subliminal scoring system. Also, don't resign later: it gives the wrong time stamp. —darklordtrom 02:20, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
I realize this. I never said I was under the impression of being penalized, either; please don't read further into what I'm saying than what I'm actually saying. Others have been penalized, however, because they've been adamant about not wanting that on their talk pages, and it's a bit over-the-top in my opinion to dock them because they don't want to archive anything (especially when starting out) and just want it deleted. --Crystal Shards 04:00, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

While I don't intend to get into the discussion whether you should be allowed to delete the welcome, I have a different issue with his matter. I think that new users should be told to delete nothing, not even the welcome, on their talk page more clearly - ideally in the welcome itself. Currently, this notice is hidden at the very bottom of this article, which isn't even on the list of main links in the welcome. --Socob 17:53, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
