Booster pack (TCG)

Revision as of 02:50, 6 June 2010 by Nashida (talk | contribs)

Booster packs are packs of 9 to 11 cards in the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Boosters are more commonly bought over decks due to stronger cards and the fact that Theme Decks always are fixed packs. On rare occasions, a Pokémon LV.X, Pokémon-ex, Pokémon Star, Shining Pokémon or Pokémon LEGEND can be found inside. Each pack contained a mixed amount of Pokémon cards, Trainer or Supporter cards, and Energy cards. These are often used to build a deck from scratch, or to strengthen a Theme Deck.

These packs have had varying amounts of cards over the years. From the first Base Set expansion through to Neo Destiny of the TCG, packs contained 11 cards. Beginning with the e-Card series and continuing through the entirety of the EX series, packs had only 9 cards. On the release of the first Diamond & Pearl era expansion, the pack size was increased to 10.

In every booster pack, at least one rare card can be found. From Legendary Collection and until now, Reverse foil cards have been in the packs, therefore allowing up to two rare cards in a single pack. Reverse holos can be common, uncommon rare and in HeartGold & SoulSilver also the new Pokémon Prime SuperRare Holo cards.
