Sketch
Question: What moves can Sketch not copy? Asking because it says almost any move. surskitty 03:19, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- I don't believe Sketch can copy Selfdestruct or Explosion since a Pokémon using one of those moves would faint afterwards, either ending the battle or bringing in another opponent. Plus, Smeargle would likely need to be at a MUCH higher level in order of survive such an attack. - unsigned comment from Quagbert (talk • contribs)
- Sketch can copy any move, as it works on moves disabled by things such as paralysis or sleep. --Jshadias 03:47, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)
But does it copy Struggle, Metronome, etc? surskitty 03:48, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Everything but Struggle. --Jshadias 03:51, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Say you in a Double Battle. Your Pokemon are a Smeargle that wants to Sketch move X, and Pokemon Y that knows move X. Pokemon Y is faster than Smeargle. Pokemon Y is asleep. For Pokemon Y, you select move X. For Smeargle, you select Sketch and target Pokemon Y. Pokemon Y's turn executes: nothing happens, as it is asleep. Smeargle's turn executes: Smeargle Sketches move X as if Pokemon Y had used it. End of battle, Smeargle now knows move X. So basically, for Sketch to work, the target need only have *selected* the move-to-be-sketched, not necessarily have used it. This method works for every move except Struggle, which of course cannot be selected. This only works in Gen3, not in Gen2. --MasamuneXGP 04:02, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Why is Smeargle in Breeding for the list of every move page I have checked? Is there a particular reason Sketch counts as breeding? - unsigned comment from Surskitty (talk • contribs)
- Probably because a Sketched move can be breeded onto a baby Smeargle. Ketsuban 04:00, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- It's not any more, probably because some moron took it out, regardless of the fact that Smeargle is pretty much all you need as a father for any Pokémon in the ground egg group. There's a lot of shitheads on this website who are hellbent on removing perfectly good uploads and information. Either they're just ass-burgers (most likely scenario) or they're under the thumb of the whoever pays the loot for all the advertising they show on this page (possible, but, why?) - the advertising industry pretty much corrupts any media it's dirty money comes in contact with.Iliekmudkips 07:19, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
Sketch can copy Selfdestruct and Explosion. Just be in a double battle. You must have Smeargle and something with Selfdestruct/Explosion. One opponent must have Damp. Use SD/EX. It will fail due to damp. Sketch it.
I have successfully sketched Transform in a double battle. the Smeargle must know Dig, Dive, Fly, Bounce, or Shadow Force. Have Ditto transform into Smeargle and Smeargle use 2-turn move (Ditto must be slower (Lagging tail, anyone?). Transform will fail due to lack of target. next turn, have Smeargle use Sketch on Ditto, do whatever with Ditto (except switch out). Sketch will successfully copy Transform.
Lunar Dance; Smeargle and Cresselia must be your ONLY party members. Go into 2v2 battle and use Lunar Dance. It will fail. Sketch it. I'd assume Healing Wish works similarly.
No, having the Pokemon asleep will NOT work. Missingno. Master 14:23, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, having the intended target asleep does work in Generation III. I've Sketched Transform that way myself in Ruby. Granted, they may have changed that for Generation IV...--Shiningpikablu252 14:31, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- You can Sketch Transform like a regular move. You don't have to do anything special. --Shiny NoctowlTalk | Contribs 14:35, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
Incorrect. Sketch will fail if used on Transform that succeeded in transforming the user. Missingno. Master 12:32, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
Sketch will not copy Chatter.--ChocoboMog123 19:13, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Chatter? Are you sure? Boy, that seems random. -- Glitch Pokémon. Official Pokémon. There is no real difference between the two. In my opinion, the two should be considered equal!-- quoted by Missingno. Master 20:14, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
- Chatter is probably un-sketch-able due to audio limitations. Yenreb 23:05, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
- That's absurd. I see that same bullshit parroted all over, but never any explanation. If it were truly a hardware issue, the move itself wouldn't work on Chatot, either (duh). Rather, it's probably to prevent the stupid situation of someone having Smeargle "learn" a chatter, only to find out that all of their other chatot's have learned what the Smeargle did (the game only saves one sound, which isn't traded with the pokemon). - unsigned comment from Iliekmudkips (talk • contribs)
Breed
If you have a male smeargle with something like Roar of time and breed him with a female Eevee could the Eevee get Roar of time? Dean
- Yeah, I wish. Roar of Time isn't one of Eevee's TM, HM, or egg moves, therefore no. TTEchidna 01:53, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
- Guys the trivia tricked me... Smeargle does NOT pass down egg moves. I tried to pass down moves to a Rhyhorn with my Smeargle, but it didn't do anything. I had a female Rhydon and a male Smeargle with Acientpower, Megahorn and Body Slam. I wanted to have then a Rhyhorn with Horn Attack, Acientpower, Body Slam and Megahorn, but when it was born it had only Horn Attack and Tail Whip. So I now think that Smeargle is the worst Pokemon, even than Magikarp ('cause at least Magikarp evolves). It has terrible stats and does NOT even pass down egg moves!!! >=( hfc2X 18:26, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
Stat?
How can Smeargle actually have Base Stats? It all depends on the moves it sketches. Slash!! 12:06, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
Base stats and base power are different things. --Posted by Deadlymethane at 12:15, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
Sprite
Should it be mentioned in the Trivia section that it's sprite from Gen III is identical to it's Gen IV sprite? Bttsstewart 01:09, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
In side games
Since August 7th is still a long time away... can someone with the ability to edit this article please add the following under the "In side games" section:

Smeargle is the only one left that I couldn't reach because it was protected. Thanks! (Yaminokame 04:54, 6 May 2010 (UTC))
In SoulSilver, Transform & Move Tutor
I was able to tutor Sketch to Smeargle. Then I took Smeargle to fight ditto. With the ditto going first, it used transform and then the smeargle used sketch. The Smeargle learned transform from the ditto->smeargle. Possibly unrelated, before I tutored, eh smeargle knew false swipe. Pardon my wiki noobishness. --Pizzini3000 21:31, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
Transform
I Have A problem: I just recently taught my Smeargle transform through sketch. Besides that, It had the moves disable and Thundershock. Later on that day, I fought a wild Tauros and used transform. During the battle, it said that an ability called anger point activated, and then after I completed the battle, My Smeargle had lost all of its previous moves, and kept the Wild Tauros'. Can anyone explain how this could have happened? - unsigned comment from Proctor (talk • contribs)
- New comments to the bottom please. What game is this in? I know that in some games there is a glitch that causes a Pokémon which has transformed to keep the transformed moveset after the battle ends. You probably activated that glitch. Werdnae (talk) 01:46, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
- It was HeartGold, And sorry, im new to posting things on the site, But can I get get more insight on how this glitch is activated? --Proctor 22:20, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
- That was easier to find than I expected . . . Werdnae (talk) 22:46, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Sketch question
After Smeargle Sketches a move (Psycho Boost for example) how PP many does Psycho Boost have? - (Sméarglé 04:16, 11 April 2012 (UTC))
Two Names switched
Two of Smeargle's names got switched : Queulorior is the French name, while Farbeagle is the German one. I'm fixing this right now.

Metrenome
I know smeargle can't copy metrenome due to it turning into another move... but what about the trick someone mentioned earlier (an asleep pokemon) that uses it and doesnt wake up, will smeargle learn metrenome? If so, this makes Transform, Metrenome, and moves like Bolt strike that do a ton of damage a lot easier. - unsigned comment from Pikachu3634 (talk • contribs)
- As of Generation VI, the only moves that cannot be copied via Sketch are Chatter and Struggle. This is already noted on the relevant articles. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 03:21, 10 July 2014 (UTC)
