Colress appears as an antagonist working with Team Plasma to help them with their goal of convincing people to liberate their Pokémon. He first appears as a competitor of the Unova Pokémon League disguised as a cloaked man named Hood Man (Japanese: フードマン Hood Man). He managed to sneak in without having earned any of the eight Unova Gym Badges. After battling his way through Victory Road, he eventually makes it to the top 8. In the quarterfinal match, he is paired up against Marlon as his opponent. Although Marlon manages to disable his Beheeyem's moves, Colress manages to come out on top and advance to the next round. After leaving, he notes that participating in the League and observing powerful Trainers will help his research. In the semifinals, Colress faces his next opponent, Cheren. Although Cheren initially struggles due to his disappointment in his Cheren's strength, he switches it out for his Unfezant and quickly defeats Colress's Beheeyem with a U-turn.
Colress appeared as an antagonist, helping Team Plasma with their goal of Pokémon liberation. Colress' first appearance was as a competitor in the Unova Pokémon League, where he was disguised as the cloak-bearing Hood Man (Japanese: フードマン Hood Man). He managed to sneak in without having earned any of the eight Unova Gym Badges. After battling his way through Victory Road, he eventually made it into the top 8. In the quarterfinals match, he was paired up against Marlon. Although Marlon managed to disable the moves of Colress' Beheeyem, Colress came out on top and advanced to the next round. After leaving, he noted that participating in the League and observing powerful Trainers would help him in his research. In the semifinals, Colress faced his next opponent, Cheren. Although Cheren initially struggled due to his Cheren's disappointing strength, he switched it out for his Unfezant and quickly defeated Colress's Beheeyem with a U-turn.

When Cheren battles with Black, Colress talks to Zinzolin about whether or not Zinzolin's theory that a cold heart is the best way to bring out the strength within a Pokémon. Although Zinzolin states that his theory is correct, Colress notes that in his battles, he was able to see many strong Trainers who use various styles to bring out the strength of their Pokémon. When White figures out that the two are actually members of Team Plasma, she attempts to reveal this to everyone at the League. Although she manages to reveal this to everyone, Colress has his Beheeyem use Teleport to transport her to N's room inside N's Castle.
Later, when Cheren battled with Black, Colress talked to Zinzolin about his theory that a cold heart was the best way to bring out a Pokémon's true strength. Although Zinzolin stated that his theory was correct, Colress noted that - in his battles - he was able to see varying styles from many strong Trainers that brought out their Pokémon's strength. When White discovered that the two were actually members of Team Plasma, she attempted to expose them to everyone at the League. Although she was successful, Colress had his Beheeyem use Teleport to transport her to N's room inside his castle.

When Team Plasma makes their attack on the Pokémon League, and N's Castle rises from the ground, Colress returns to stop the Elite Four from helping in the battle. There, he reveals that he was given Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus and intends on having them battle the Elite Four so that he can figure out to transform the three into their Therian Formes. Using a mirror, he discovers that a special mirror is the key to transforming the three Pokémon. When Ghetsis is defeated by Black, Colress rushes in to assist his ally. Using his Beheeyem, Colress frees Ghetsis from being trapped, causes Black to be sealed into the Light Stone, and Teleports himself and Ghetsis away. Afterwards, he talks to Ghetsis, who thanks him for his assistance to Team Plasma's goal. Although Ghetsis expresses a desire to work with him again, Colress only agrees as long as it doesn't impede his research.

Two years later, he attacks Aspertia City for a test run of Genesect's abilities. There, he encounters Lack-Two and Looker, who happened to be in the area. Lack-Two attempts to capture Genesect, as he noticed that Colress was controlling with a machine and it must still be a wild Pokémon. After a long battle, Lack-Two succeeds in capturing Genesect with the help of his Dewott. Defeated, Colress commends Lack-Two's strength and leaves, but not before revealing that he has become the new leader of Team Plasma. Before disappearing, he tells the two that Ghetsis is the one to ask if they wish to find out why. Later. he arrives at the Plasma Frigate to check up on the new Grunt uniforms he designed. He meets with Ghetsis and states that they should go to meet with Zinzolin.

Defeated, Colress commended Lack-Two's strength and left, revealing that he had become the new leader of Team Plasma and telling the two that Ghetsis was the one to ask if they wished to discover why.
