If you just look through the machine instructions/assembly (the ROM), you're gonna be able to see how the game works—which isn't to say that's necessarily a trivial task, though. (Encryption on later games also makes it a bit harder to even read the ROMs in the first place.) ::::::More to build on what Tiddlywinks has said, the people who have done this are people who have devices that can read and write to the 3DS, if not a modded 3DS that already does this, can view and edit files with a PC, and have created or used programs that can bypass the rounds of encryption that the 3DS uses. So, we do have the proper evidence to say that the appearance ratio is correct.
