The Captain (Japanese: 船長 captain) was a character of the day who appeared in A Shipful of Shivers.

He is a former winner of the Orange League who won the event using his Gastly and Haunter over 300 years ago. He used to sail a delivery ship, going from island to island and delivering things to other islands. One night, 300 years ago, the ship was caught in a terrible storm and sunk.

		Gastly
		The Captain's Gastly first appeared on the ghost ship along with Haunter scaring Team Rocket, who had the Winner's Trophy, and taking it from the Gas Pokémon. It was seen playing with Misty's Togepi, when Ash and his friends tried to take the trophy. Suddenly Team Rocket appeared and sent out Arbok and Victreebel, but they ended up fainting. Gastly created an illusion along with Haunter, showing them the story of their owner. The trophy on his bedside table is what Gastly guarded until divers took it, and it made the ship return to the surface to recover it. With the help of Ash and his friends, it sent Team Rocket blasting off. In the end it along with Haunter telekinetically flew the ship to a place where nobody would try and steal the trophy again. Gastly's known moves are Lick and Night Shade.
