The '''Smart condition''', also called '''Smartness''' (Japanese: '''かしこさ''' ''Cleverness''), is one of the five different {{pkmn|Contest}} [[condition]]s.

==Characteristics==
A {{OBP|Pokémon|species}} will have its Smart condition raised when fed [[Pokéblock]]s or [[Poffin]]s made with {{Berries}} that have a bitter [[flavor]]. Pokémon with [[Nature]]s that boost {{DL|Stats|Special Defense}}—Calm, Gentle, Sassy, and Careful—get the most benefit from bitter-tasting Berries, as a result, they are the easiest to raise for a Smart Contest.

When competing in the Smart category, a Pokémon with an enhanced Smartness will score higher in the {{DL|Pokémon Contest|primary judging}} of a [[Pokémon Contest]] and the [[Visual Competition]] of a [[Pokémon Super Contest]]. This can also be assisted with the use of the {{DL|Scarf|Green Scarf}}. Many {{t|Psychic}}-, {{t|Grass}}-, {{t|Ghost}}-, and {{type|Poison}} [[move]]s will become Smart moves when used in Contests, but moves from other [[type]]s may display Smartness as well.

==Awards==
At the end of a Smart Contest, the winning Pokémon will receive a Contest [[Ribbon]]. Additionally, in {{game2|Diamond|Pearl|Platinum}}, {{pkmn|Coordinator}}s are awarded special [[Accessory|Accessories]] the first time they win the Contest. Different Ribbons and Accessories are awarded for winning in each of the four ranks.
