Vaporeon (Japanese: シャワーズ Showers) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.

It evolves from Eevee when exposed to a Water Stone.

Biology

Vaporeon is the result of an Eevee's exposure to the radiation of a Water Stone.

Physiology

Vaporeon is a composite creature sharing physical traits of dogs, cats, and fish. Vaporeon's body is light-blue and has a white collar. Vaporeon has yellow ears made of webbing and has a fin on its head resembling its ears. Vaporeon has a pointed pattern of dark blue on its head that encompasses the backs of its ears and head-fin. It also has blue ridges that run down the length of its spine and on to its tail-fin, and the paw pads on its hind feet are dark blue like the ridges. Vaporeon's finned tail is said to look similar to that of a mermaid's. Vaporeon's molecular structure is close to water, so its body glitters when sunlight hits at certain angles because of it.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Vaporeon are highly adapted to aquatic life. Unlike its pre-evolution, it has the ability to breathe underwater. As stated previously, they have a unique molecular structure. They have the ability to "melt" into a body of water and disappear completely from view. They can also manipulate water molecules, giving them the ability to learn Template:Type2 attacks their previous evolution could not. Vaporeon also have the ability to walk on water.

Because it's a fully evolved Pokémon, Vaporeon can learn Hyper Beam and Giga Impact.

Behavior

Vaporeon are very difficult to observe in the wild, as they are somewhat uncommon. When they are in the water, they are virtually impossible to see. While they are much easier to see while they are resting onshore, they possess the ability to rearrange themselves on a molecular level, causing themselves to "melt" into the water. It is likely that many mermaid stories were spawned by Vaporeon sightings, as their tails resemble those of mermaids. When Vaporeon's fins begin to vibrate, it is said to be a sign that rain will come within a few hours.

Habitat

Vaporeon are always found close to water, and prefer large, clean lakes. It is found in the same regions that Eevee can be found in.

Major appearances

Vaporeon first appeared in The Battling Eevee Brothers, under the ownership of Rainer.

Vaporeon was also seen under the ownership of one the Kimono Sisters in Trouble's Brewing and Espeon, Not Included.

An old woman named Galea owned a Vaporeon in On Olden Pond.

Minor appearances

Ash battled against a Vaporeon in the Pokémon League entrance exam.

In Mewtwo Strikes Back, a Vaporeon owned by Fergus was one of the Pokémon that were captured and cloned by Mewtwo. The Vaporeon clone is seen again in Mewtwo Returns.

Vaporeon made a small cameo in the beginning of Giratina and the Sky Warrior together with an Eevee and the other six Eeveelutions.

Another Vaporeon appeared in DP174 during the Sinnoh Grand Festival where it evolved from an Eevee, under the ownership of Ursula.

A Vaporeon made a small cameo in Pokémon Heroes under the ownership of an unnamed trainer, who was giving it some water.

Trivia

  • Vaporeon is tied with Umbreon and Leafeon for tallest Eevee evolution.
    • It is also the heaviest Eevee evolution.
    • Thus, both of these facts make it the largest Eeveelution.
  • Vaporeon has the highest HP base stat of the Eeveelutions. Because of this, Vaporeon has the highest max base stat of all the Eeveelutions. (While the others have 394, Vaporeon has 464.)
  • Vaporeon is the only Template:Type2 that appears in field section of Pal Park.
  • In Generation I, Vaporeon had a notably different design with the backs of its ears being all black, fins on each leg, and a fin running down the entire length of its back. All of these details were removed in Generation II. Notably, these details weren't present in its original R/G artwork.
  • Despite being described as the "Bubble Jet Pokémon", Vaporeon can not learn Bubble. It can, however, utilize TM11 (BubbleBeam) in Generation I.
  • Vaporeon is the only Eeveelution that does not share any weakness with another.
  • Vaporeon, along with Glaceon, was the first Pokémon to have a fifth generation sprite revealed. This was on August 11, 2010.

Origin

It has traits of foxes, cats and a number of aquatic mammals; it also shares characteristics with mermaids.

Name origin

Vaporeon's name is derived from vapor. The -eon suffix, common to all Eevee evolutions, comes from Eevee's prototype English name and possibly refers to the ending suffix of evolution itself. Its Japanese name probably refers to rain showers. The French and German names are based on the word aqua.
