Espeon (Japanese: エーフィ Eifie) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon. It evolves from Eevee.
Biology
Physiology
Espeon is the result of an Eevee trusting a Pokémon Trainer very much, then being leveled up during the day. Its catlike appearance and red gem have made some mistake it for a relative of Persian, however, this gem merely augments its psychic powers. Its tail, which is forked a bit like a Buizel's, also helps it to foresee possible futures.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Espeon has developed Psychic powers due to a combination of great loyalty to its trainer and sunlight, such as the ability to predict its opponents' movements by reading the air currents. Like most fully evolved Pokémon, Espeon can learn Hyper Beam or Giga Impact. One would also assume that Espeon can learn Power Gem due to being a gem-bearing Pokémon, but it cannot.
Behavior
Espeon are very loyal to their trainers and will protect them from harm.

Trivia
- Even though Espeon's name is derived from extra-sensory perception, it cannot learn the move Extrasensory.
- Espeon bears a striking resemblance to Yu-Gi-Oh monster Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle. (Espeon came first, though.)
- Contrary to popular belief, Eevee can be evolved into Espeon in the Generation III Game Boy Advance games, but only in Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, by leveling it up while it has a happiness of at least 220 between 12:00 AM and 12:00 PM.
- Espeon and Glaceon are the only Eeveelutions that share the same highest base stat. However, Espeon has a higher Speed stat while Glaceon has a higher Defense stat.
- Espeon shares the same species name with Sunflora. They are both known as Sun Pokémon.
Origin
It appears to be based on legend of the nekomata, also known as bake-neko. Nekomata are mysterious two-tailed goblin cats. It can also resemble a Carbuncle, a Latin-American mythological beast which had a jewel on its forehead.
Name origin
Espeon's name is derived from ESP, or extra-sensory perception, a branch of psychic abilities. -eon is the suffix common to all of Eevee's evolutions. Espeon's Japanese name is probably derived from the fact that its forked tail looks similar to a capital letter "F".
