Mention of stories on character pages
Should each story a character is in be mentioned on said character's respective pages, such as mentioning Mitsunari's participation in the Not Worth Fighting Over. Also, if a character is set as a Warlord of a kingdom in one story, and another kingdom in another, should both be mentioned in the Kingdom part of the infobox? One example I can think of is Oichi, who becomes the warlords of about 5-6 different kingdoms from what I remember. Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 03:57, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
Oichi can appear in 3 castles: Aurora, Pugilis and Dragnor. I think the 2-3 other castles you are talking about are from the joiner warlords episodes. Still I think this should be add to their pages as you already have it with the pages for the castles. Also I think that it should say on here which castle(s) you start with because like in the ninja compati you start with 2 castles. While No's story has her starting in Terrera and not in Spectra.TrainerX493 (talk) 16:30, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
- In my unprofessional opinion, I think that each character's page should have mention of the story they star in. Each of these mentions could be a short description of what happens in the success case of that story (such as Oichi/Ginchiyo/Nō/etc. was named the Queen of Ransei after conquering the eight central kingdoms, or Mitsuhide/Motochika successfully defeated Nobunaga's forces within in 3 years). If there is a set start location, it should also be mentioned, or it should mentioned if the start location is random (i.e. the Junior Warlord competition), or multiple at once (i.e. the Ninja competition). Progression order
Is it ever really clear why some of the unlock requirements are what they are? For example, it makes sense that you;d need to complete Hideyoshi's story to get Hanbei's, but why does Hideyoshi's unlock Nene's as well? Or why is Ginchiyo's a requirement for Yoshihiro's? Naming
I'd like to know where Bulbapedia stands on the fan-made names used in this article.
- Should they be capitalized as titles?
- Should they be called "<name> series/stories", rather than "<name>"?
- Should they be changed to match the English version game's wording as close as possible?
- Should they have titles at all, seeing as they don't have any in the game? Yvnr (talk) 10:05, 16 March 2013 (UTC)
- I take it you're talking about the section titles ("Recruit 40 Warriors," "Kenshin and Shingen's rivalry," etc.), and frankly, I don't see where you're getting with this. They aren't really fan made titles, but more a way to organize the stories by objective. They seem fine as is. Schiffy (talk) 14:37, 16 March 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, that is what I'm referring to - those with hidetags saying "fan-made name" or "fan-assigned name". Seeing as this is an encyclopedia, it should be clear "where I'm getting with this". Whether to include fan-made terms or not, and how they should be presented, is clearly of relevance. For example, when they are capitalized and linked to in kingdom articles, the reader is led to believe that these are official, in-game titles. It's true that they are a way to organize the stories, that's their sole purpose, otherwise they would not be included, but that does not mean they aren't fan-made. If you really think they aren't fan-made, feel free to explain. If no other opinions are voiced, I'd like to get word from staff on capitalization, at least. Yvnr (talk) 18:38, 16 March 2013 (UTC)
- I don't see what's wrong with the capitalization as is, even though, yes, they are fan made names. To explain each one:
- "The Legend of Ransei" - that's the official name of the first story, no further explanation should be needed.
- "Unite Ransei" - Unite should be capitalized as it's starting off the line, and Ransei is a proper noun.
- "Junior Warlord competition" - Warlord is used as a proper noun in this game. Competition isn't capitalized, and it doesn't need to be.
- "Befriend 100 Pokémon" - Pokémon is a proper noun.
- "Recruit 40 Warriors" - like Warlord, Warrior is used as a proper noun throughout the game.
- "Kenshin and Shingen's rivalry" - the article (and) is not capitalized, and neither is the word rivalry. No problems here.
- "Ransei's Greatest Beauty" - that's the title used in the text of the associated episodes.
- "Defeat Nobunaga" - Nobunaga is proper, self explanatory.
- "Ninja competition" - perfectly fine as is, competition isn't capitalized, Ninja, which is the first word, is.
- "Not Worth Fighting Over" - this is the name of all three stories involved, save the number.
- "Two Heroes of Ransei" - like the first one, this is an official name.
- Nothing seems to be wrong with any of these as is. Schiffy (talk) 22:28, 16 March 2013 (UTC)
- You know, I was the one who changed the capitalization to what it is, so being lectured on how correct it is leads us nowhere. My problem is the mid-sentence capitalization of initial words in linking articles, as I referred to above. Status on my four points:
- Schiffy thinks the articles should have their initial word capitalized. I say this is treating them as actual terms, when they are used mid-sentence. If no other word is given on how Bulbapedia would like to deal with fan-made names, I will likely change this kind of usage to lower case, as I believe it is better not to fully adopt fan-made names when it isn't necessary.
- If no word on this, I'll probably throw in a "stories" or "series" as well, since they are categories. This also, like above, helps emphasize their status as colloquial terms.
- Schiffy is fine with the wording as is. I may change some words to better reflect in-game wording, but I doubt there is enough in-game text to help me find titles that are purely fan-assigned (which is obviously better than fan-made).
- The point here is that titles aren't the only option. However, I think brevity/aesthetic has the upper hand on accuracy here, so I won't change this, as it does not appear to be adequately against policy.
- That's about it, unless anyone wants to argue against my rationale, in which case they should feel free. Yvnr (talk) 08:37, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
- No need to speak in the third person, we've been the only two people talking here. And I'm still unclear on where you are talking about when saying "used mid-sentence." Please show me what you are talking about, because I'm not noticing it. Schiffy (talk) 14:37, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
- But other people are reading this, and they are part of my intended audience when evaluating the topic, explaining my rationale before editing. If it's still unclear, I'll quote from above: "For example, when they are capitalized and linked to in kingdom articles, the reader is led to believe that these are official, in-game titles." See any kingdom page, like Aurora, capitalizing "Unite", "Befriend", and "Defeat" mid-sentence (with links). Yvnr (talk) 20:51, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
- I see the misunderstanding here, I didn't realize you were talking about the individual Kingdom pages, but rather this page on its own. In that case, I agree. "Oichi is the Warlord of Aurora in the four Unite Ransei stories," for example, should be changed to "Oichi is the Warlord of Aurora in the stories where the objective is to unite Ransei," with a link leading to that section of this page.
