 In [[HZ048]], Roy, Liko, and Dot arrived in Artazon. Roy's Basics Test was temporarily postponed due to the town having its annual [[Artazon Art Festival]]. In the meantime, Roy faced Nemona in a battle, but was defeated. Frustrated, Roy asked to rematch Nemona, only for Brassius to  suggest Roy participate in the festival in order to realize why he lost. Together, Roy and Fuecoco made a clay Charizard sculpture capable of breathing fire provided by Fuecoco's Flamethrower. This allowed Roy to realize he was failing to utilize any opportunity and resources in battles, impressing Brassius as a result. During his rematch with Brassius, Roy properly used strategies to see through Brassius's tactics, then defeated him after Terastallizing Fuecoco for the first time.
-In [[HZ052]], Roy was trying to get videos of wild Paldean Pokémon as part of his report project, having trouble doing so in the process. He then came across a wild Capsakid and with Fuecoco's help lured it close with a berry to try and get a video off it, only for it to run away. Seeing how Wattrel was also trying to help but struggling to fly in strong winds still, Roy tried to sing it a song to cheer it up, only for it to leave. Later that night, Roy and Fuecoco notice how Wattrel was training to get stronger, they then had a spooky encounter with a Houndstone, revealed to be Ryme's, both trainers bonded over their love of music and Ryme even rapped to encourage Wattrel to overcome its fears, while also displaying an interest in Fuecoco before leaving. The next day, Roy had break up yet another fight between his Pokémon, afterwards he heard a cry for help and had to save the same Capsakid he encountered from a cliff ledge with Wattrel's help, which was successful, however Roy slipped and fell afterwards which caused Wattrel to dive after him and evolve into Kilowattrel to save his life. Kilowattrel then flew Roy around the area before landing, showing how powerful it has grown. Roy then asked Liko and Dot if they got footage of Kilowattrel's evolution but to his dismay they did not, but afterwards he got footage of Kilowattrel giving Fuecoco a ride to show their reconciled friendship, pleasing Roy as a result.
