James's Mareanie: Difference between revisions

Prior to being caught by James, Mareanie formed a crush on a {{DL|List of alternately colored Pokémon in the anime|Toxapex|differently colored Mareanie}} after he saved her from a {{p|Tentacruel}}. Later on, though, Mareanie spotted her crush giving a {{p|Corsola}}'s horn to another Mareanie, leaving her heartbroken.

Mareanie debuted in ''[[SM012|The Sun, the Scare, the Secret Lair!]]'', in which she encountered James when he was wearing a scuba diving helmet resembling a Corsola. She latched onto his helmet, mistaking it for a real Corsola, causing it to crack and flood with water. After James reunited with {{TRT}}, Mareanie latched onto his head and injected him with poison which caused him to resemble a {{p|Mareanie}}, causing Mareanie to become smitten with James. Later, during a battle with {{Ash}}, Mareanie jumped in to help Team Rocket and launched a {{m|Spike Cannon}} towards {{AP|Pikachu}}. With Mareanie's help, Team Rocket gained the upperhand against Ash, {{status|poisoning}} his {{AP|Rowlet}} and dealing serious damage to Pikachu. As [[Jessie's Mimikyu]] was about to launch one final attack, {{an|Bewear}} suddenly appeared from the water and took Team Rocket away with it. After being dropped off at [[Bewear's den]], James asked Mareanie to join his team, which she accepted. After catching her, James called her back out, and Mareanie affectionately latched onto his head, making him look like a Mareanie once more.

In ''[[SM058|Fighting Back the Tears!]]'', Mareanie was reunited with her former crush, which evolved into {{p|Toxapex}} and fought James for her affections. She later ran away from Team Rocket after she overheard James talking about leaving her with Toxapex, and found sanctuary with Ash at {{an|Professor Kukui}}'s house. The next morning, while walking along the beach, she was attacked by another Tentacruel, but she was saved by James. Despite their reunion, James still insisted on {{pkmn2|released|releasing}} Mareanie, leaving her in tears. However, James was then challenged to a fight by Toxapex to make Mareanie happy, which ended in a tie. Following the fight, Mareanie decided to stay with James, which he accepted.

In ''[[SM073|Why Not Give Me a Z-Ring Sometime?]]'', Mareanie learned {{m|Knock Off}}. Realizing that they could now use their Darkinium Z, Team Rocket took {{an|Giovanni}}'s advice and traveled to [[Ula'ula Island]] to get a [[Z-Ring]] from the Ula'ula [[Island kahuna]]. After a {{p|Gengar}} had stolen the Darkinium Z, Team Rocket gave chase, and eventually managed to recover their Z-Crystal. When the Gengar then began attacking them, [[Nanu]] gave Team Rocket a [[Z-Power Ring]], allowing James and Mareanie to perform {{m|Black Hole Eclipse}}, defeating Gengar.

In ''[[SM117|Drawn with the Wind!]]'', Mareanie battled Ash and {{ashfr}} for the final time, fighting [[Sandy]] and [[Ash's Meltan]]. Mareanie poisoned Sandy with Sludge Bomb, but struggled against Meltan due to its {{type|Steel}}. She was then knocked out by Sandy's {{m|Double-Edge}}.

In ''[[SM131|The Battlefield of Truth and Love!]]'', James used Mareanie in his battle against [[Jessie]] during the Manalo Conference, where they went up against Wobbuffet. Having been ordered by Jessie to lose the match so she could advance, James had Mareanie use attacks that Wobbuffet could reflect. He was then about to order Mareanie to take a fall, when he saw that she wanted to battle properly for him. James decided to ignore Jessie's instructions and had Mareanie fire a relentless barrage of Spike Cannons, which were able to break through Wobbuffet's {{m|Counter}} and defeat it. As a result, James moved on to the second round, where he was to face off against {{an|Gladion}}.

In ''[[SM146|Thank You, Alola! The Journey Continues!]]'', the trio received an order from Giovanni to return to the {{an|Team Rocket HQ}} due to their lack of achievements in Alola. Knowing their Pokémon wouldn't be happy at the HQ, Jessie and James decided to leave them behind. However, when James told Mareanie about their upcoming departure, she believed she would come along and got excited. The following night, while Mareanie and Mimikyu were sleeping, James discreetly entrusted the trio's Z-Power Ring and Alola base to her and the others. He promised to return one day, before departing to [[Kanto]] with his teammates. Mareanie was later seen playing with Mimikyu and {{an|Stufful}}.

Similar to a number of other Pokémon James has owned, Mareanie is very fond of James and occasionally engulfs her {{pkmn|Trainer}}'s head in her ten spiked tentacles. The resulting poisoning causes James to look like a Mareanie. Mareanie has an attraction to James's appearance in this state, one of the reasons she decided to join him. In addition, Mareanie is shown to be a romantic, as seen in ''[[SM055|The Professors' New Adventure!]]'', where she was drawn to the sound of {{an|Professor Kukui}} and {{an|Professor Burnet|Burnet}}'s wedding, causing her to fantasize about marrying James, only to be snapped out of her delusion by her Trainer calling out to her. However, prior to the moment when she first poisoned James, she was shown to be quite grumpy, as shown when she slapped Jessie's hand away when Jessie first stroked her.
