Returning to the Brave Asagi after their adventure in the Galar Mine, the Rising Volt Tacklers all sit around the table marveling at the pendant Pokemon. Mollie guesses that it was disguised as a gem. Orla asks Liko if she knew about this, who shakes her head having been told by her grandmother that it was just a good-luck charm. Dot, over the phone, acknowledges that it looks like some sort of turtle Pokemon. Roy, thinking it's not a Squirtle, scans the strange Pokemon with his Pokédex, which provides no data. Looking at the Pokemon, Liko isn't sure what to do next. As even Captain Pikachu is baffled, the pendant Pokemon yawns and takes a nap, which Liko finds cute. Friede thinks that all they can do is go to Liko's grandmother for answers for now, having Liko and Roy come with him and having Cap look after the ship.
Following their adventure in the Galar Mine, Liko, Roy, and Friede have returned to the Brave Asagi with the mysterious Pokémon that emerged from Liko's pendant. With none of the Rising Volt Tacklers or even the Pokédex recognizing it, Liko, Roy, and Friede head out to ask more from Liko's grandmother. Friede also asks Captain Pikachu to watch over the airship while they're gone. Meanwhile, Amethio has contacted Hamber to reveal that he's been operating on his own. He also reveals footage of the mysterious Pokémon that emerged from the pendant they've been trying to obtain. Hamber is surprised to see this and accepts Amethio's request to resume pursuing their target, which Amethio reveals yo be currently headed for Hammerlocke. Amethio ends the call, and Hamber starts contacting other Exolorers admins. Spinel and Agate too busy to answer, but Onyx and Sango accept the call to head to the Galar region with him. The two start to argue, but Hamber's Dusknoir scares them back in line as they head out.

As Roy packs some berries in his bag for the trip, he wonders what Liko's grandmother is like. Liko gets her backpack on, having the pendant Pokemon make do with riding inside. She is excited for Sprigatito to meet her grandmother, but the Grass Cat Pokemon is not as thrilled. Liko places Sprigatito on her lap, giving it a single stroke on its head before the Grass Cat Pokemon complies. As Liko stands up, she knows how tricky it is looking after three Pokemon friends now.
Liko, Roy, and Friede arrive in the Wild Area, but before they can decide which of the area's numerous castles to investigate, Liko's grandmother's Squawkabilly approaches them, repeating the words "Liko" and "old castle", prompting the trio to follow it. Squawkabilly eventually leads them to what looks like a wall of stone, until a Stonjourner moves aside to reveal a secret passage for them. They go inside and Stonjourner moves back to cover the entrance again, leaving Zirc and Onia confused about where their targets disappeared to when they arrive in the area moments later. While Amethio arrives to help them in their search, Liko tells Roy and Friede more about her grandmother. She has never seen her more than during brief visits, which she doesn't necessarily even count as proper meetings, the last of which happened a year earlier when Liko was accepted into the Indigo Academy and her grandmother visited her to give her her pendant as a good-luck charm.

Meanwhile, onboard the Explorers' submarine, Amethio contacts Hamber, who is surprised at how he and his team have been operating independently. Amethio shows Hamber a picture of the pendant Pokemon in the Galar Mine with Liko and the others. Knowing the Pokemon they saw is more than just a pendant, Amethio asks for answers about what Pokemon it is. Amethio asks Hamber if he will rebuke his decision and remove him, and Hamber lets him continue on the Rising Volt Tacklers' trail. Amethio says that they are heading towards Hammerlocke. Using the intel they have, Hamber says that they can likely work out their route. When Hamber gives Amethio criticism on informing him before taking action, he hangs up on him. Hamber then contacts other Explorer Admins. Spinel is busy in the laboratory with Agate. When Onyx arrives, Hamber then decides to head to Galar, having him and Sango accompany him. Sango is down for a vacation, but is not thrilled about going with Onyx, who likewise thinks that Sango will only get in the way. As Hamber's Dusknoir rises from the floor, he casts a glare at Onyx and Sango, scaring them back into line. Onyx thinks this must be urgent if Hamber is choosing to head to Galar personally. Hamber, knowing what has emerged from Liko's pendant, is focused on seeing it for himself.
Eventually, the Rising Volt Tacklers trio arrives at the old castle they were searching for. Liko calls out to her grandmother, and is right away greeted by her grandmother's Arcanine and then her grandmother, Diana, herself. Roy and Friede introduce themselves to Diana, while Liko introduces her to her partner Pokémon, Liko. Diana shows them around the castle, which serves as one of her hideouts and as a spot where wild Pokémon can come and go as they please. Sitting down to talk, Diana reveals that she too had been targeted by the people after her pendant and thanks Liko for keeping it safe. Liko and Friede struggle to explain the situation, but before they can properly do so, the truth reveals itself when the mysterious climbs out of Liko's bag and moves towards a surprised Diana. Liko explains that her pendant transformed into this Pokémon, which Diana identifies as Terapagos. While she knows the Pokémon's name, she hadn't expected the pendant to be a hibernating Terapagos, even if its Terapagos differs from the recorded form with a big shell. She also suspects that Terapagos used to be one of Lucius's partners, much to Liko and Friede's surprise.

Coming off the train to Hammerlocke's Wild Area, Liko wonders where her grandmother's old castle is. Friede checks the map on his Rotom Phone, but sees that there are a lot of castles around this area. The pendant Pokemon wakes up in Liko's backpack as a Squawkabilly arrives repeating the words "Liko" and "old castle". Liko recognizes the Parrot Pokemon as the one belonging to her grandmother. After Roy scans it with his Pokédex, it offers to take them to the old castle. As the group follows Squawkabilly, Friede becomes skeptical as to how there's not a single castle in sight despite the map saying so. After walking through the forest, Squawkabilly addresses the old castle, but there are just linings of stones in front of them. Squawkabilly excitedly brings up Liko, making the stones in the center open up to reveal a secret passage. The group sees that the stone door is actually a Stonjourner standing guard, which Friede finds intriguing. As group heads through the secret passageway, Stonjourner moves back to cover the entrance again, leaving Zirc and Onia confused about where their targets disappeared to when they arrive in the area moments later. A Morgrem pounces off of Zirc before jumping into the bushes.
Back at the stone wall, Amethio notices one spot looking off and has Ceruledge use Psycho Cut on it, sending the Stonjourner running off and exposing the secret passage. At the castle, the group eats a meal of canned food and follows it with cups of tea. Liko asks Diana to tell her how she became an adventurer, which she's happy to tell now that Liko has taken her own first step into the world. When she was even younger than Liko is now, she had discovered an old briefcase in her attic. Inside it, she had discovered the pendant and a book written by Lucius about his adventures. This inspired her to start her own journey to learn more about Lucius, but no matter how hard she searched, she never found a single sign of him. 30 years ago, she finally gave up on her search, but still keeps on adventuring, all thanks to the inspiration provided by Lucius. Several months ago, an old friend of hers offered to support her on her adventures, but when it turned out that said friend was associated with a shady organization that was after her pendant, she chose to hire the Rising Volt Tacklers to protect both Liko and the pendant. She thanks Friede for protecting her granddaughter. Roy shows Diana the Ancient Poké Ball which the Black Rayquaza had emerged from. Liko also recounts how some mysterious visions had appeared during their encounters with Arboliva and Galarian Moltres, which she now suspects were actually Terapagos's memories. When she asks her grandmother if she knows what "Rakua" is, Terapagos suddenly lets out an excited cry and moves towards a nearby door. Diana answers that Rakua is the name of the paradise that Lucius sought and leaves to fetch something she wants to show them: Lucius's memoirs.

Squawkabilly leads the group along a brick pathway. Liko tells Roy that her grandmother is always traveling with Pokemon looking for mysteries and treasures from long ago. The last time they met was last year when she had been accepted into the Indigo Academy. Liko's grandmother came to her to congratulate her and gave her the pendant. Liko continues about how her grandmother was always stopping by on her travels and never really got a chance to talk with Liko personally. As Onia and Zirc are still having trouble finding Liko and the others, Amethio drops in on his Corviknight. As Onia and Zirc tell him their fruitless search, Amethio has them cover more ground to look for clues.
However, whilst Diana is on her way to retrieve the memoirs, her Arcanine and a Blipbug appear behind a window to warn her that intruders are approaching. Moments later, Amethio, Zirc, and Onia enter the building. Friede sends out his Friede, while Amethio calls out Ceruledge, and Zirc and Onia cover Liko and Roy's escape routes. Terapagos notices Amethio and pulls itself free from Liko's grasp, locking eyes with him and letting out a sharp cry.

Liko, Roy and Friede finally arrive at the old castle. Squawkabilly lands on Liko's head, repeating "Liko" and "old castle" again, its flapping wings disorienting the latter. Liko responds in kind, calling out to her grandmother to let her know she has arrived. An Arcanine leaps down and roars, but Liko happily embraces it, knowing it's her grandmother's partner. The gates to the castle open, and Liko's grandmother, Diana, is there to greet her granddaughter. After Diana brings them inside, Friede and Roy introduce themselves. Diana thanks the two for getting Liko here unharmed. Diana then notices Sprigatito, holding out her hand and telling it that Liko is more stubborn than she looks, but is very kind. Diana pulls her hand away when Sprigatito attempts to scratch it, praising the Grass Cat Pokemon's grit before inviting the group inside. Back on the ship, Cap starts to get hungry.

Liko asks her grandmother if this is her home, and she tells her that the castle one of her hideouts. Roy becomes thrilled to see that it is also full of Wild Pokemon who choose to come and go as they please. Friede thinks from this that the castle is just like their ship. Diana says that she's the only one living here; a carefree life all by herself. Later as Roy marvels at a painting of an Arcanine overlooking the full moon on a cliff, Diana tells Liko that she contacted Lucca as soon as the people going after the pendant turned up, revealing that she was targeted by the Explorers too. When Diana thanks Liko for bringing the pendant, she and Friede become nervous. Diana asks if they lost it, and Liko becomes tense. She struggles to explain the situation, but before she can properly do so, the truth reveals itself when the mysterious Pokemon climbs out of Liko's bag and moves towards a surprised Diana. Liko explains that she doesn't know why it happened but the pendant turned into this Pokémon, which Diana identifies as Terapagos. While she knows the Pokémon's name, she hadn't expected the pendant to be a hibernating Terapagos, having thought it was something akin to a fossil. Liko asks about Terapagos, and Diana has ideas that differ from the recorded form with a big shell. If Diana's theory is correct, this Terapagos traveled alongside the ancient adventurer Lucius and was one of his partners, to Friede and Liko's surprise. Roy panics about Fuecoco's condition. Liko and Friede become concerned until they realize that the Fire Croc Pokemon is just hungry, so Diana proposes having a meal. Back on the ship, Cap goes to the kitchen and stuffs himself full of Pokémon food.

Night falls back at the stone wall, and the Explorers are still nowhere closer to finding their targets. Amethio notices one spot of the stone wall looking off and has Ceruledge use Psycho Cut on it, sending the Stonjourner running off and exposing the secret passage. A Blipbug in the trees watches the Explorers enter through the secret entrance. At the castle, Liko is baffled to see that the food Diana presents to the group is all canned. Diana enjoys eating like this every day seeing how it saves her from having to wash dishes. Friede agrees that it tastes good, and Liko thinks that her grandmother is impatient, but smiles nonetheless. After the meal, Arcanine senses something outside.

As they later have tea, Liko asks Diana to tell her how she became an adventurer, which she's happy to tell now that Liko has taken her own first step into the world.

Diana thanks Friede for protecting her granddaughter. Friede says that Terapagos has made him even more invested in solving the mystery, which impresses Diana. Roy shows Diana the Ancient Poké Ball which the Black Rayquaza had emerged from. Liko also recounts how some mysterious visions had appeared during their encounters with Arboliva and Galarian Moltres, which she now suspects were actually Terapagos's memories. When she asks her grandmother if she knows what "Rakua" is, Terapagos suddenly lets out an excited cry, and the group wonders what's wrong. Terapagos crawls over to the nearby door and begins clawing at it as Hatenna jumps out of Liko's hood and onto its back, making Liko panic. Terapagos falls over onto its back and Liko picks it up. Diana answers that Rakua is the name of the paradise that Lucius sought and leaves to fetch something she wants to show them: Lucius's memoirs. Hearing that her grandmother told her about her past that she never knew about because she became a Trainer, Liko becomes more proud of herself for stepping out with Sprigatito.

The group is amazed by how amazing Liko's grandmother is. However, As Diana is on her way to retrieve the memoirs, Squawkabilly turns her attention to Arcanine and the Blipbug from outside, who appear behind a window to warn her that intruders are approaching. Liko's three Pokemon friends sense something from outside, turning their attention towards the open window. Amethio comes in, and he and Friede send out Ceruledge and Charizard to face each other. Friede has Liko and Roy get away, but Onia and Zirc are there to cover their escape routes. Seeing Amethio, Terapagos jumps out of Liko's arms and confronts him personally. Hatenna runs around Terapagos before falling down. A determined Terapagos then starts locking eyes with Amethio and letting out a sharp cry.
