Emboar (Pokémon): Difference between revisions

Emboar is based on a pig. Additionally, [[Ken Sugimori]] has said that Tepig, Pignite, and Emboar were designed in a Chinese style, specifically mentioning the character of {{wp|Zhang Fei}} from ''{{wp|Romance of the Three Kingdoms}}'' as Emboar's inspiration.<ref name=ND201>''Nintendo Dream'' Vol. 201, January 2011 ([http://lavacutcontent.com/ken-sugimori-nintendo-dream-3/ Translation by Dr. Lava])</ref> Zhang Fei was assassinated by his own subordinates, and had his head severed and presented for the opposing faction, which may be alluded to in Emboar's design, as its head is "separated" from its body by a wreath of fire. The wreath of fire also resembles a cape or a scarf. Emboar may also be based on {{wp|Zhu Bajie}}, a pig demon from the Chinese tale ''{{wp|Journey to the West}}''. {{p|Serperior}}, Emboar, and {{p|Samurott}}'s evolutionary lines are collectively based on Western, Chinese, and Japanese culture respectively, to represent the diversity of the [[Unova]] region.<ref name=ND201/>

Appearance-wise, Emboar looks much like a {{wp|wild boar}} with elements of a {{wp|British Saddleback}} in a {{wp|wrestling singlet}}. The swirl pattern around its abdomen resembles the patterns on a ''{{wp|Ding (vessel)|ding}}'' or {{wp|Pottery of ancient Greece|ancient Greek pottery}}. The fire in its Shiny coloration may refer to blue fire, which generally indicates a higher temperature than an orange fire but may also be caused by certain chemicals burning at a normal temperature.
