Is it possible Mimikyu draws some inspiration from a mimic, which is a species in D&D that are monstrous entities disguised as welcome objects like chests and such. In this case the disguise is, literally, its disguise, as a Pikachu or Pikachu doll, but with a ghost (which attacks similar to the chest mimic, a hand lunges out to pull them in, like Let's Snuggle Forever).
