Xerneas (Pokémon): Difference between revisions

Xerneas's appearance is based on a cervid (more specifically a stag) in the shape of the letter {{wp|X}} (known as a {{wp|saltire}} in heraldry) or an {{wp|X mark}}. Various fan theories claim that Xerneas may be based on {{wp|Eikþyrnir}} and the four stags {{wp|Dáinn, Dvalinn, Duneyrr and Duraþrór}} of Norse mythology, or Cernunnos of Celtic mthology. Eikþyrnir resides in {{wp|Valhalla}} eating the foliage of {{wp|Læraðr}} with glowing horns that drip with dew. According to the ''{{wp|Poetic Edda}}'', the four stags resided in the trunk of the World Tree {{wp|Yggdrasil}} and ate its branches and fresh shoots. Xerneas's tree form may be based on Yggdrasil itself. Cernunnos, meanwhile, is known as the ''horned god'', associated with antlers, and is a life-giving deity.
