This sounds far-fetched perhaps, but you may want to consider the possibility of Chespin being traded to Ash.  You are wondering where the grass type will come from; meanwhile, Chespin likes food, and in '''[[XY059|Under the Pledging Tree!]]''', Ash's berries for his group seemed more to Chespin's interest than the gift that Clemont made for the Pokémon.  You better consider that possibility.  I'm going to say it happens, but the question is what Ash will catch that would find Clemont a better partner.  Clemont always finds Chespin doing things that are unconventional for Clemont, as well.  It seems to have more of a carefree attitude like Ash does, and even goes to length to help Ash's Pokémon out, like being locked in a cage with Pikachu to secretly pick the lock with its Vine Whip.
