:::::Professor Juniper mentioned that Trip was a beginning Trainer back in the first episode of BW. He probably used that attitude to make Ash look like a beginner. Nobody mentioned Ursula being a rookie which was why I was curious about her behavior. I don't find rival battles to be accurate in terms of who is better since it was mostly the writers making them win.
