A '''Name Rater''' (Japanese: '''せいめいはんだんし''' ''{{wp|Onomancy|Onomancer}}'') is a man who judges how suitable Pokémon nicknames are. Name Raters allow the players to rename their Pokémon, as long as they are the [[original Trainer]], or, at the very least, that they have the original Trainer's [[Trainer ID number|Trainer IDs and secret IDs]], and, from [[Generation V]] onward, name and gender.
