==Trivia==

Whimsicott is based on a fully bloomed ball of {{wp|cotton}} and a {{wp|sheep}};<ref name=ND204/> the connection appears to be made because both cotton and sheep produce clothing material. This association with sheep is reinforced by Whimsicott's inclusion in the [[horoscope|Unova horoscope]]. Designer Atsuko Nishida has also humorously mentioned the ''Genghis Khan'' (also known as ''{{wp|Jingisukan}}''), a Japanese grilled mutton dish, as an inspiration.<ref name=CFPPage1/> Whimsicott may also draw some origin from the {{wp|Vegetable Lamb of Tartary}}, a mythical "sheep-growing" plant used to explain the production of cotton in the Middle Ages.
