Physiology
Tympole is a round, tadpole-like Pokémon with a tan, circular face. It has large, oval, black eyes; a wide mouth with down-turned corners; and black eyebrows in the shape of quarter notes. Its spherical body is black with no visible limbs. Instead, it has two black-and-blue ringed cheeks akin to half-spheres on either side of its head. It has a long, blue tail with a fan-like shape and a black spot at its base.
Tympole is a round Water-type Pokémon with a circular, cream-colored face. Its eyebrows are shaped like two quarter notes. Its body is similar in coloration. It possesses blue and black-ringed bumps, like acoustic speakers, on its sides. Its tail is long, tapered, blue and tadpole-like.

Gender differences
Tympole vibrates its cheeks to create a sound too high-pitched for humans and other species of Pokémon to hear. The sounds are used in rhythm to communicate with others of its kind, particularly for warning of danger. They are known to sing in high-pitched voices, which creates graceful ripples on the water's surface. The anime reveals that Tympole swim and attack in groups.
None.

Special abilities
Evolution
Tympole's cheeks are able to vibrate high-pitched melodic sounds that are inaudible to humans. It speaks using these sound-waves and even notifies its friends of danger with them.
Tympole evolves into Palpitoad, which evolves into Seismitoad.

Trivia
Trivia
* Tympole shares some similarities with Poliwag; both are Water Pokémon based on tadpoles that first evolve at level 25, although Tympole does not reach its final evolution via an evolutionary stone.
* Tympole shares its category with Poliwag, Poliwhirl, and Poliwrath. They are all known as the Tadpole Pokémon.
** It also shares the name "Tadpole Pokémon" with the members of the Poliwag evolutionary family: Poliwag, Poliwhirl and Poliwrath.
* Although it is simulated as swimming in Pokédex 3D, Tympole does not display the bubble effect that all other Pokémon simulated in an aquatic environment, such as Eelektrik and Stunfisk, display. The reason for this is unknown.
** Also, both lines have an evolutionary relative based on a frog or toad.
* Tympole's face has become a phenomenon on the popular Japanese online artist community Pixiv.
*Despite not being able to walk on land, Tympole can be found in grass patches just outside Pinwheel Forest.
* Although it is simulated as swimming in Pokédex 3D, Tympole does not display the bubbles effect that all other Pokémon simulated in an aquatic environment, such as Eelektrik and Stunfisk display. The reason for this is unknown.

Origin
Origin
Tympole appears to be a combination of a toad tadpole and a loudspeaker. Tympole's spherical "speakers" were probably inspired by toads' "warts" and poison glands, as well as the Surinam toad, an aquatic amphibian whose backs are covered in pockets that hold its eggs. Its Pokédex entry also mentions the fact that it creates vibrations underwater, also like the Surinam. Its eyebrows resemble musical notes, and the bumps on the side of its head are similar to headphones.
Tympole appears to be a combination of a toad tadpole and a loudspeaker. Its spherical bumps resemble headphones, and were probably inspired by either the toads' "warts" (known as parotoid glands), or the tympanum (anatomy) of a real-life toad, an eardrum-like body part located in the same area which the toad uses to hear. Its eyebrows resemble musical notes, specifically the quarter note.

Tympole and Palpitoad's designs were worked backwards from Seismitoad's design.

Name origin
Name origin
Tympole may be derived from timpani (a low-pitched drum-like sound or the sensation felt in the abdomen when a drum is struck), tympani, a type of drum, or from "tympanic membrane"—eardrum—referring to the bumps on each side of its head, all of them deriving from the Greek tympano. It may also come from tempo which supports why it has headphone-like bumps. The latter part of its name is derived from tadpole.
Tympole may be a combination of timpani or tympanum (both being types of drums), or tympanic membrane (eardrum; referring to the bumps on each side of its head), and tadpole.

Otamaro seems to come from the Japanese word otama, an abbreviation of "otamajakushi", which means tadpole or musical notes.
Otamaro may be a combination of お玉杓子 otamajakushi (tadpole; musical notes) and 麿 maro (affectionate suffix for young men) or 麻呂眉 maro-mayu (shaved eyebrows).
