S.S. Anne: Difference between revisions

This ship contains many [[Pokémon Trainer]]s, including many {{tc|Gentleman|Gentlemen}} and {{tc|Sailor}}s. In [[Generation]]s {{gen|III}} and {{gen|VII}}, in one room on the first floor, a lady will restore a Trainer's party on hand to full health. Before reaching the captain's cabin, the {{player}} will encounter their [[rival]] and battle him.

After the rival has been defeated, the player will be able to enter the Captain's quarters, where they will find him seasick. By choosing to help him by giving him a backrub, players will be able to get {{HM|01|Cut}}{{sup/1|RGBY}}{{sup/3|FRLG}} or learn the [[Secret Technique]] Chop Down{{sup/7|PE}}.

In Pokémon {{3v2|Red|Blue|Yellow}}, as well as their remakes {{2v2|FireRed|LeafGreen}} and [[Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!]], a truck is placed in the [[Vermilion City#Harbor|S.S. Anne's port]], which seems to serve no evident purpose except as scenery, and was programmed into the game as a floor tile. With scenery being very sparse in the [[Generation I]] games, and this being one of the few sprites with no other purpose than to exist in one spot, fans began speculating that another purpose existed for this truck. The truck cannot be accessed without {{m|Surf}}, which the player would not normally have or be able to use before the S.S. Anne departs.

There are a couple of ways the player can access the truck. One is to lose a battle on the S.S. Anne after obtaining {{HM|01|Cut}} so that the player is warped to the last [[Pokémon Center]] they visited without the S.S. Anne departing and they can return later with {{m|Surf}}. Another is to trade in a Pokémon that knows Cut, so that there is no need to obtain HM01 (Cut). Alternatively, [[List of glitches in Generation I#S.S. Anne reboarding|a glitch]] in [[Generation I]] also allows the player to bypass the sailor who normally blocks the entrance after the ship has departed. In Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, the player is no longer prevented from accessing the harbor once the S.S. Anne leaves, so they can freely return to see the truck as soon as their partner learns the [[Secret Technique]] Sea Skim.

A rumor claimed that the truck could be moved with {{m|Strength}} and {{p|Mew}} could be found underneath it. This rumor is untrue. In Generation I, there is nothing to be found around the truck at all, but in FireRed and LeafGreen, a [[Lava Cookie]] is hidden to the south of the truck. In [[Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!|Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!]], a [[Revive]] that respawns once per day is found in the same location.

In the special ''[[HS18|The Search for the Legend]]'', [[Ritchie]] rode aboard a ship called the S.S. Anne in the dub; the ship is unnamed in the original Japanese. However, it was named the S.S. Anne rather than St. Anne.

The S.S. Anne first appeared in ''[[PS010|Danger: High Voltorb]]'' and ''[[PS011|Buzz Off, Electabuzz!]]'' as a cargo ship that docked at Vermilion once every month. When {{adv|Red}} heard that the citizens of {{ci|Vermilion}} had been losing their {{OBP|Pokémon|species}}, he snuck aboard the ship and found out that the local [[Gym Leader]], [[Lt. Surge]], was behind the thefts and was using the ship to transport the stolen Pokémon away. After torturing Red with his {{t|Electric}} Pokémon, Surge tossed him overboard. However, Red was narrowly saved from drowning when his {{p|Poliwhirl}} unexpectedly [[evolution|evolved]] into [[Poli]]wrath, which then proceeded to defeat Lt. Surge's {{p|Electabuzz}} with {{m|Seismic Toss}}. Although the authorities failed to find and arrest Surge, the stolen Pokémon aboard the ship were still recovered.

In ''[[PS038|Long Live the Nidoqueen?!]]'', {{adv|Giovanni}} revealed that the S.S. Anne had been used to ship the Pokémon stolen by [[Team Rocket]] from Vermilion City to [[Viridian City]], as a part of their plan to gather an unstoppable Pokémon army.

The S.S. Anne reappeared in ''[[PS055|The Primeape Directive]]'', where {{adv|Yellow}} boarded it while it was passing by {{rt|9|Kanto}}. In ''[[PS056|The Coming of Slowpoke (Eventually)]]'', the ship, which was now a passenger ship instead of a cargo ship, was sabotaged by the [[Team Rocket Elite Trio]], who exploded a bomb inside the ship and caused it to start sinking. Although Yellow was able to defeat the trio and save all of the passengers, the ship still sunk at the Vermilion Harbor.

The S.S. Anne appeared in ''[[PZ04|Vermilion City]]'', where {{zensho|Satoshi}} met the ship's seasick captain. After the captain had recovered, he talked with Satoshi for a bit, before he headed off to the [[Vermilion Gym]]. After Satoshi had earned the {{badge|Thunder}}, the captain showed up at the Gym and gave Satoshi {{HM|01|Cut}}, before the S.S. Anne set sail.
