The '''Pokémon League Reception Gate''' (Japanese: '''ポケモンリーグうけつゲート''' ''Pokémon League Reception Gate'') is a large guardhouse in [[Generation II]] and [[Generation IV|IV]] located in [[Kanto]] to the west of [[Viridian City]]. The building serves as not only the badge checkpoint for [[Johto]] trainers but also as the only four-way intersection in [[Pokémon]] history that was not located in a populated area.

Trainers entering Kanto from [[Johto]] via {{rt|26|Kanto}} and {{rt|27|Kanto}} are forced to enter this building from the south. Here, they are stopped by a [[Pokémon League]] official and must present the eight Johto [[badge]]s before they can advance. Ahead of the guard post is a four-way intersection of hallways; however, only the north hallway leading to {{Ka|Victory Road}} and the [[Indigo Plateau]] is open initially. The east hallway, leading to {{rt|22|Kanto}} and Viridian City, opens up once the Gate is entered from the Route 22 side. When the gate is opened from the {{rt|22|Kanto}} side, the player can travel between [[Johto]] and [[Kanto]] on foot, without taking the [[S.S. Aqua]] or the [[Magnet Train]]. While the west hallway, leading to {{rt|28|Kanto}} and [[Mt. Silver]], is opened by [[Professor Oak]] once {{ga|Ethan}}, {{ga|Kris}} or {{ga|Lyra}} collects all eight Kanto badges.

In {{2v2|HeartGold|SoulSilver}}, Janine will appear here every evening between 4 and 6 PM after being defeated and will give {{ga|Ethan}} or {{ga|Lyra}} her phone number in order to call her for a rematch.

==Significance==

The Reception Gate replaced [[Route 23]] in many ways in Generation II and IV. In Generations I and III, Route 22 led to Route 23 and the badge checkpoints were scattered throughout Route 23, checking for one badge at a time. This changed in Generation II as Route 22 now led to the Reception Gate and the badge checkpoints were consolidated into a single checkpoint in the Route 26 hallway.
