'''Mold Breaker''' (Japanese: '''かたやぶり''' ''Mold-Breaking'') is an [[Ability]] introduced in [[Generation IV]]. Eighteen {{OBP|Pokémon|species}} can have this Ability.

Mold Breaker ignores the effects of {{Abilities}} that could potentially weaken or negate moves (or side-effects of moves) that its user executes; for example, a Pokémon with Mold Breaker can hit opponents that possess {{a|Levitate}} by using {{m|Earthquake}}. Mold Breaker applies regardless of target Pokémon, but only to moves executed by its user (so if two Pokemon in a [[double battle]] both know Earthquake, only the Pokémon with Mold Breaker can hit a Levitating opponent).

Mold Breaker does not ignore [[type]]s that grant immunity to attacks or effects, such as the {{type|Ground}}'s immunity to {{m|Thunder Wave}} or {{t|Steel}}'s immunity to {{t|Poison}}.

Unlike {{m|Gastro Acid}}, which completely negates a target's Ability, the opponents' Abilities otherwise remain in effect:  Abilities that protect against [[status ailment]]s ({{a|Immunity}}, {{a|Insomnia}}, etc.) will not protect the Pokémon from receiving the status ailment, but (with the exception of {{a|Leaf Guard}}) will immediately cure it of the status inflicted.  Abilities that draw attacks to the user, such as {{a|Lightningrod}} and {{a|Storm Drain}}, will still divert attacks in double or triple battles regardless of Mold Breaker, but will not prevent the attacks from landing (or landing with 100% accuracy) or inflicting damage on the Pokémon.

In Generation IV, when a Pokémon with Mold Breaker is brought out, the message "'''<name> has Mold Breaker!'''" is displayed. In Generation V onwards, when a Pokémon with Mold Breaker is brought out, the message "'''<name> breaks the mold!'''" is displayed.
