Metang is a robotic {{OBP|Pokémon|species}} with teal, metallic skin. It has a disc-shaped body with a pair of flat, gray spikes on either side toward the rear. A jet cannot scratch Metang due to its strong body. There is a gray spike in the middle of its face, similar to a nose. A pair of red eyes reside in two holes in its metallic skin. While it appears to lack legs, it has a pair of thick arms with three claws on the ends. The arms are considerably thicker below the elbow and have a flat, blunt protrusion extending over the joint.
Metang is a robotic lifeform that has a disc-shaped body with a pair of appendages that resemble Beldum. It has two red eyes and a pointy nose.  Even though Metang and its evolved forms are mechanical creatures, they still have emotions, the need to eat and a way of reproducing. Metang has been said to be related to {{p|Magneton}} due to the fact that both of them are partially Steel-type that create electromagnetic waves to float in the air, and probably due to the fact that they evolve in a similar fashion, it takes two Beldum to evolve into a Metang and two Metang to evolve into a Metagross. When not levitating, it stands on its appendages, similar to its evolution. It may use its appendages like boosters to gain speed.

Metang is formed when two {{p|Beldum}} fuse together. A magnetic nervous system joins the brains of these two Pokémon. This linkage allows Metang to generate a strong, psychokinetic power that is doubled. However, this does not increase its intellect. This Pokémon's high intelligence and strong magnetic field are other sources of powerful psychic energy. In addition to generating psychic power, its magnetism allows Metang to hover in midair. It is able to rotate its arms backwards in order to travel at speeds over 60 mph (100 km/h) in search of prey. When Metang finds its prey, it uses its psychic power to stop it from escaping. Then it firmly grabs onto the prey with its claws, never letting go. Metang's claws are able to rip through steel. This Pokémon lives on {{DL|List of Pokémon by habitat|Rough-terrain Pokémon|rough terrains}} and harsh mountains. It pursues {{p|Nosepass}}, loving its magnetic minerals.
Metang's body is magnetized, and it uses magnetism to move, communicate, and control its attacks. It is said to be related to Magneton, but Metang's magnetism focuses on {{type2|Psychic}} moves instead of {{type2|Electric}} moves. Metang is capable of two rare {{type2|Steel}} moves, {{m|Bullet Punch}} and {{m|Meteor Mash}}. It can also use some Psychic-type moves such as {{m|Psychic}} and {{m|Zen Headbutt}}. Metang has a few {{type2|Rock}} moves at its disposal, such as {{m|Rock Tomb}} and {{m|Rock Slide}}. Metang can learn {{m|Grass Knot}} which is somewhat common for a Psychic-type. Metang tend to live in areas with rough terrain, but they are even harder to find than Beldum (which are already very rare). The best (and only) place to find a Metang would be in [[Unova]]'s [[Giant Chasm]].
