Route 1 appeared in the opening of ''[[M20|I Choose You!]]'', which takes place in a different continuity from the main anime. {{OBP|Ash Ketchum|M20|Ash}} left Pallet Town via this route at the start of his Pokémon journey, with his newly obtained, disobedient starter Pokémon, {{OBP|Ash's Pikachu|M20|Pikachu}}. Like their main anime counterparts, Ash and Pikachu were attacked by a large swarm of Spearow, with their attempt to escape them, in the midst of a rain storm, culminating in Pikachu unleashing a powerful electrical attack on the bird Pokémon, knocking himself and his trainer out in the process. Ash and Pikachu awoke after the storm had passed to see Ho-oh flying overhead across the orange sky, dropping a [[Rainbow Wing]] as it went.
