Hoenn Route 118: Difference between revisions

'''Route 118''' is an east-west route, located in central [[Hoenn]]. The route, separated into two segments by the southern extent of a river that splits Hoenn into two huge islands, runs between [[Mauville City]] to the west and {{rt|123|Hoenn}} to the east. While the western segment is densely populated with trainers on a beach, the eastern half is dominated by grass.

An interesting feature of Route 118 is that it is the only route in the [[Pokémon World]] with two types of background music. The music changes whether the player is in the route's eastern half (near Routes 119 and 123) or in its western half (near Mauville City).

From Mauville, the route is straightforward, traveling directly east-west between the city limits and the west bank of the river. The western half of this path is composed of fields while the eastern portion is a sandy beach.

When trainers first encounter the river, it is impassable, as they are often lacking {{HM|03|Surf}} at this point. After acquiring the move and the ability to use it outside of battle, trainers can cross the river to reach the eastern half.

 

The short river path runs directly east-west and contains no trainers, leaving [[wild Pokémon]] as the only concern.

Route 118 comes ashore on another beach containing a pair of Fisherman. [[Gabby and Ty]] are often found in the area as well, looking for up-and-coming Pokémon trainers to battle and interview.

Heading north from the intersection, a four-way intersection allows access to the upper areas that overlook the main path of Route 118. To the west is another trainer, a small area of grass, and a [[loamy soil]] patch containing two [[Sitrus Berry]] plants. To the east is yet another grass patch and a [[Hyper Potion]]. Continuing north, the path becomes Route 119.

== Trivia ==

*A glitch, only in {{game|Ruby and Sapphire|s}}, allowed players to make Aroma Lady Rose walk over the ledge to start a battle. This was corrected in {{game|Emerald}}, as she was part of a double battle by then.

*If the player is standing in the route's western half (by Mauville City), the music is shared with [[Hoenn Route 110|Routes 110]], {{rtn|111|Hoenn}}, {{rtn|112|Hoenn}}, {{rtn|114|Hoenn}}, and {{rtn|117|Hoenn}}, while if the player is in the eastern half, the music used is shared with {{rt|119|Hoenn}}.

**Strangely, the music associated with this route in the game programming is on the space 7FFF. This music is equal to the music played in the Route 119. The reason for this is unknown.
