Beginning Set (TCG)
The Beginning Set (Japanese: はじめてセット) and the Beginning Set for Girls (Japanese: はじめてセット forガール) are the second release of cards in the BW era of the trading card game. This is the first time that card releases have split products based on gender. The two sets will be released on October 29th, 2010, followed by Deluxe (DX) versions of the sets to be released on November 20th, 2010. The sets will contain three half decks, damage counters, a coin, a play mat, as well as how to play DVDs and manuals. The cards differ from the Beginning Set and the Beginning Set for Girls: the girls' set contains cards with a "cuter design."

The cards are divided both by set number for the Beginning Set and by colored silhouettes of the three starters of Generation V, which is the numbering system for the three half decks.
Pre-release information
- July 29th, 2010: Online stores post information over the four variants of the Beginning Sets.
- August 4th, 2010: Prototype images shown above are revealed.
- September 17th 2010: The official card database updates with much information over the sets, including images of many new cards. These cards are: Tsutarja, Janoby, Pokabu, Chaobu, Mijumaru, Futachimaru, Basurao, Mamanbou, Shimama, Koromori, Meguroko, Tabunne, Chillarmy, and Buffalon.
- September 18th, 2010: Pokémon Fan magazine features the sets, revealing card numbers as well as three new cards: Yanappu, Baoppu, and Hiyappu.
