A battle item is, as its name implies, an item given to a Pokémon during battle to enhance its performance. Battle items, however, wear off after a battle or when the Pokémon is switched out.

Trivia

  • Both X Attack and X Defend appeared in the TCG as Trainer cards, however, their English language release accidentally used their Japanese names, PlusPower and Defender. Their sprites introduced in the Generation III games also indicate that they are the same item by their appearance and color.
  • Some Gym Leaders in Generation I as well as trainers in Norman's Gym (Generation III) use Battle items.
