He means to have [[Alice]] as his wife, but the feeling is not mutual. However this doesn't seem to get in the way of his goal. When Alice says she wants [[Tonio]], Alberto just laughs thinking that her liking towards Tonio is a joke.

Alberto first appeared while [[Alice]], {{Ash}}, and {{ashfr}} were investigating some severely twisted pillars in [[Godey]]'s garden. He was adamant that {{OBP|Darkrai|M10}}, a longtime resident of the garden, was behind the bizarre occurrence and sought to prove his point.
 
During the events of the movie, Alberto was transformed into a {{p|Lickilicky}} due to a combination of Darkrai's {{m|Dark Void}}, {{mov|Palkia}}'s interference with space, and his Lickilicky's dream of becoming Alberto. Angered by this, Alberto assembled a group of {{pkmn|Trainer}}s to deal with it. Later on, he returned to his normal form when the effects of Dark Void faded, and became a bystander for much of the destructive battle between Palkia and {{mov|Dialga}}.

He was quick to assign blame of strange occurrences to {{OBP|Darkrai|M10}} and take charge of the situation when it become apparent that Darkrai was a threat. Even when proven wrong, Alberto maintained his sense of judgment and dismissed the objections of others. The extra attention from {{TRT}}, who [[List of Team Rocket's disguises|posed as a news crew]], only inflated Alberto's ego.
 
He is particularly hostile towards {{OBP|Tonio|M10}} and often insulted him, a relationship compounded by his one-sided romantic affections for Alice. Alberto openly declared that he wanted to marry her, and continued to pursue her even though she indicated her lack of romantic interest in him.

His role in the manga is not too different from the original, but his infatuation with Alice is not mentioned. He first appears when Ash and the others notice the Alamos Town Gardens have been ransacked, explaining that he believes that all of the trouble happening in [[Alamos Town]] is caused by {{OBP|Darkrai|M10}}, and swears that he will be the one to defeat it. He works with {{TRT}}, thinking that they are working on a documentary about him. After attempting to defeat Darkrai, it transforms him into a Lickilicky as it did in the movie. He is restored to normal after their rematch. Alberto is present during the final battle and realizes Darkrai had only wanted to protect Alamos Town all along.
