Name Origin
Gumshoos seems to be a play on Gums (as in the mouth and likely a reference to its apparent older look) Mongoose, and a corruption of the term Gumshoe (a detective). Yamitora1 (talk) 13:31, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
- I agree with all of this except the gums part. Think less that it "looks older" and more that it "looks like a detective" by its facial expression and pose. I don't even give a Schif (Talk • Contribs) 15:02, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
- Just as long as people can stop saying that it looks like Donald Trump. Remember what happened to last Pokémon that was deliberately based off of a living person?--Pokencyclopedia (talk) 17:31, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
- To be honest..... no I don't remember (nor do I agree with this Trump thing, but that's besides the point). I don't even give a Schif (Talk • Contribs) 17:46, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
- I’m guessing he’s referring to Kadabra. It’s ability to bend spoons was similar to the famous psychic Uri Geller, who sued the Pokémon Company in 2000 for using his likeness in what he claimed was a parody. Kadabra has not been featured in the anime or trading card games for years due to a lack of an agreement being reached.

- I personaly agree that any visual likeness to Donald Trump is merely a coincidence. Its prominent blond fur can easily pass for a dective's cap, with the brown fur along the side of its body being a trenchcoat. - Nintendo101 (talk) 00:43, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
- Could it also be based on 'shoo'? As in telling someone to go away?

The "Deka" in the Japanese name could be the slang term for "detective" sometimes used in that language (as in the Super Sentai show Dekaranger). Starscream (talk) 18:59, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
