amiibo are a line of interactive figures by Nintendo. Each amiibo figure contains an NFC chip in its base, which allows it to interact with multiple games on both the Wii U and New Nintendo 3DS consoles using near field communication.

Several Pokémon characters have been announced or released as part of the Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U line. These figures are intended for use with the eponymous game, which allows each figure to store a matching AI-controlled character that can be powered up and fought with/against in numerous game modes. Pikachu was released as part of the initial wave in November 2014; Lucario, Charizard, Jigglypuff and Greninja have also been released, with Mewtwo planned for a future date.

Currently, no Pokémon games incorporate amiibo functionality.
