A Mega Ring (Japanese: メガリング Mega Ring) is a device that acts as a medium between a Pokémon Trainer and a Pokémon holding a Mega Stone in order to make them Mega Evolve. When the Mega Ring is activated, the Pokémon's corresponding Mega Stone reacts to it, starting the process. In order for the Mega Ring to work, it must have a Key Stone (Japanese: キーストーン Key Stone).

Possession of one Mega Ring is offered to the player and each of his or her friends, who have to pick the most deserving out of their group. The selection is quickly whittled down to two people, the player and Serena or Calem, depending on the gender of the player. Upon defeating Serena or Calem, the player has to defeat the Shalour Gym and then go to the top of the Tower of Mastery to retrieve the ring from Korrina.

After the player has beaten their rival in Kiloude City, Professor Sycamore will upgrade their Mega Ring at the Anistar Sundial by having the player touch the sundial. Once upgraded, the player can then find hidden Mega Stones around Kalos from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Variations

Several variations of the Mega Ring are known to exist, but each serves the same purpose.

  • The player character uses the normal Mega Ring, which is a bracelet wrapped around their left wrist. Their rival uses the same standard Mega Ring when they are battled in Kiloude City.
  • Korrina uses a Mega Glove (Japanese: メガグローブ Mega Glove), which is a Key Stone embedded in her left glove.
  • Lysandre uses a Mega Ring which takes the form of a Key Stone attached to a ring on his left hand.
  • Diantha uses a Mega Charm (Japanese: メガチャーム Mega Charm) that takes the form of a Key Stone embedded inside her necklace.
