Fletchling made its first appearance stealing a Berry that Bonnie was trying to feed to a wild Dedenne. Having made Bonnie cry, Ash's Froakie attempted to battle Fletchling, only to be repeatedly knocked out of the air. After Fletchling left, Clemont tried to attract it with one of his Clemontic Gears, only for Fletchling to set them up into being attacked by a swarm of Beedrill.
The chase led Ash and his friends to a canyon, where Froakie challenged Fletchling to another battle. Using the terrain to its advantage, Froakie managed to defeat Fletchling and resulted in its capture by Ash. Fletchling was soon sent out again to be introduced to everyone else where it shared an Oran Berry with Froakie and Pikachu.
In XY005, Fletchling was used in Ash's battle against Viola. Since her Surskit already took damage from Fletchling, it was able to defeat it easily since it could fly and was not affected by the icy ground as Pikachu was. With 1 pokémon left on each team, Viola sent out her Vivillon to battle. Despite the type advantage, Vivillon was able to stop Fletchling's attacks by using Psychic and hit into the icy ground. After Vivillon used Gust, Fletchling was sent into Surskit's Sticky Web that was used during its battle with Pikachu. Vivillon then used Solarbeam on a stuck Fletchling to end the battle with Ash losing. At the end of the episode, Fletchling and Pikachu partook in some special training with Alexa.
