Shiny Pokémon (TCG)

Shiny Pokémon is a concept first introduced in Generation II that has been adapted to the Pokémon Trading Card Game in several different ways, first with Shining Pokémon and second with Pokémon . Beginning with Diamond & Pearl, both previous treatments of the shiny concept were phased out, until Shiny Pokémon were re-introduced to the TCG in Stormfront.

Unlike Shining Pokémon and Pokémon, these new Shiny Pokémon do not have special rules restricting their use, and do not even have any text on the cards acknowledging that they are shiny. The main difference between the shiny cards and their non-shiny counterparts is that the cards are reverse-holographic and much more rare, and the images of the Pokémon display their alternate coloration. This more closely mirrors the Shiny Pokemon of the video games since in the video games, shiny Pokémon offer no competitive advantage and simply display rare colors for their species.

Notably, all of the Shiny Pokémon released since Stormfront together make up a subset of cards that span multiple sets with a numbering scheme that also continues through the sets.
