This card was released as a Holofoil {{TCG|SWSH Black Star Promos|SWSH Black Star Promo}} with artwork by [[You Iribi]] and was available in the {{TCGMerch|Sword & Shield|Series|Darkness Ablaze Three Pack Blisters}} from August 14, 2020. In Japan, it was one of seven {{TCG|S-P Promotional cards}} available in {{TCGMerch|Sword & Shield|Era|Pokémon Card Gym Promo Card Pack 2}}, which was intended to be distributed at Pokémon Card Gym venues throughout March, April, and May 2020; however, these events were among those to be canceled from February 29, 2020 due to the [[COVID-19 pandemic]]. Despite this, it is evident venues still received packs from [[The Pokémon Company]], hence external knowledge of the cards at the time, and that some venues still distributed them in some way. Events officially resumed from May 23, 2020 and packs were distributed until July.

In Japan, a second S-P Promotional print with artwork by [[so-taro]] and the collection number 075/S-P was one of eight cards available in {{TCGMerch|Sword & Shield|Era|Pokémon Card Gym Promo Card Pack 3}}, which was distributed at Pokémon Card Gym venues from July to mid-September 2020. This print was later included in the {{TCG|Shining Fates}} expansion outside Asia. In Japan, a third S-P Promotional print with artwork by [[Yuu Nishida]] and the collection number 117/S-P was one of eight cards included in {{TCGMerch|Sword & Shield|Era|Pokémon Card Gym Promo Card Pack 4}}, which was distributed at Pokémon Card Gym venues held in late September, October, and November 2020. This print was later available as a Holofoil SWSH Black Star Promo in the {{TCGMerch|Sword & Shield|Series|Chilling Reign Three Pack Blisters}} from June 18, 2021. All Japanese prints are Non Holofoil and feature the Pokémon Card Gym logo.
